The live version is so much stronger than the recorded version.
I know-all songs sound better live but this one just sounds that much better.
What is your choice?
Couldn't agree more. Of the Girl all the way. I think it's St. Louis 2000 or Boise 2000 where they opened with it and Mike just tore off an incredible solo.
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
Black is in my opinion their best live song. RVM is amazing. Of course porch, espeicially when its 10 min long. Blood, which many people may not think of is better live. My personal favorite is Evenflow but only with a Matt Cameron drum solo.
There are many where the live version is just so outstanding because it adds another dimension to an already incredible song. But if I have to pick one where the difference between the live version and studio versions are simply light years apart, and the band transforms a blase studio track into a footstomping crowd participating anthem then I'd have to vote:
actually, I think force of nature still sounds better on the album. I don't think they've nailed it live yet. Like some other said, I almost exclusively listen to boots now, so I'm having a hard time recalling some album versions without listening to them right now. They are all so great live! Deep in Nashville was extremely badass though!
"I've got things to do and things to say in my own way..."
Like most people Black. It's pretty much different every time played. I think Light years is better live. Eddie changes up the last chorus in a sense of tone and it's just beautiful.
I got some if you need it.

It's funny, I read your question backwards at first because I would never think it would be asked. I thought it was obvious that they're all better live and therefor it would make more sense to list the studio versions you liked better. Anyway, with that said, I think everything they've done is better live than on record EXCEPT Backspacer.
For some reason, Backspacer does not grow or evolve into something bigger when played live. It's the only album of theirs that I feel that way about.
totally agree with you but you can add 'blood' to that as well. it would be impossible for ed to sing at that insensity live for the whole duration of the song
I've heard it live twice and trust me it's one of the best things they do live, Eddie copes with the vocal side of things really well and I came away from one of their concerts thinking it was the best song of that particular night.
Like most have said in this thread, a huge majority of PJ songs are better in concert, but a couple that really stand out for me as being much better live are 'Present Tense' and 'In Hiding'.
hmmm...this might be controversial but I think Given To Fly might actually be better on record and In My Tree (mostly because I don't like the way Matt plays it).
eh, I don't know. I'm having second thoughts about In My Tree now....

"In Hiding"
Adore this song, one of my top 5 PJ songs, but I think it's worse live.
Everything else sounds better live, but especially "Black" (the studio version is just alright to me).
