What a January so far- this, Cage the Elephant, new Iron & Wine that has been streaming- I am a very happy listener!
I listened to the Iron & Wine album over at teamcoco yesterday - I thought it was pretty cool, a different sound/direction then previous records, but cool. I haven't heard Cage the Elephant - any good?0 -
I picked up the physical CD today - really so that I could see the lyrics for this - the depth of the song writting is incredible....not to mention the arrangment of the instruments as well, but this is a beautiful, beautiful album. Top 5 of 2011 (so far) for me!0

Agreed on the Iron & Wine front! As for Cage the Elephant- so good! I definitely would pick it up, solid from front to back. Really has been impressing me!"Sometimes you find yourself having to put all your faith in no faith."

Loving the new record. Can't wait for the sold-out House of Blues show next Saturday."FF, I've heard the droning about the Sawx being the baby dolls. Yeah, I get it, you guys invented baseball and suffered forever. I get it." -JearlPam09250

Took a listen and really loved it. Dowloading it now on Amazon for $7.99! Like their sound on this record a lot.0

I'm seeing them at the Beacon on Monday from the front row. I checked Ticketmaster on Thursday evening and got very lucky. :-)You see me empty, Sir, do not pause and inquire, simply assume and refill.

The new album is fabulous. I get a strong R.E.M. vibe from a lot of tunes, especially Calamity Song. Not surprising, since Peter Buck plays on several tracks. I was lucky enough to be able to see The Decemberists at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland on 9/11, where they debuted a couple of the tunes off this record and I'll be seeing them at the Schnitzer Auditorium on 2/19. I love a Decemberists' hometown show!Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies, in the final sense, a theft against those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed.0

Didn't know Colin Meloy had some solo albums. Are they worth getting? He's also doing some solo shows later in the fall.

Anyone get his children's book? Wildwood My friend recommened it to me a few weeks ago (I didn't even know he wrote one). Pretty cool children's fantasy book (like Where The Wild Things Are and Chronicles Of Narnia). His wife did the illustrations.

I'm about 10 chapters into the book, but liking it a lot. It's about two seventh graders who are drawn to a magical forest cause one of the kids baby brother was kidnapped by crows.8/28/98- Camden, NJ
