Amazing, amazing band!
I recently got into them and have had them on repeat for the past few days!!
The Wanting Comes In Waves/Repaid and O Valencia! and Hazards of Love 1 are my favorites so far.
Any other fans?

I like them, the Crane Wife especially.

    Nice band!

one of my favorite bands. you can tell colin meloy is an english major. i love the literary nature of their lyrics and the fact colin squeezes in words like parapet and taiga into the lyrical fray. Definitely check them out live. When I saw them live about a year ago, they ended the show with having the audience act out the move west of the settlers and all that. pretty unique stuff.

If you are into indie rock, this band is definitely one of the major bands.

Oh boy, where do I begin? They f'n kick ass. Seen them twice before, including last summer at the new Mountain Park in Holyoke, MA. Just fantastic. One of my favorite bands hands down.

My current Decemberists jam is "Here I Dreamed I was an Architect". But really, I celebrate their whole catalogue.

Since we're on the subject, does anyone have mp3's of Colin Meloy does Sam Cooke? If so, I'd love to hear it.

Hazards Of Love was in my top 5 albums last year, The Crane Wife was a decent album too (might have made my top 10 the year it came out, but I got a few years later).

I'd say their two before Hazards of Love are good ones to start. They are called Picaresque and The Crane Wife. Great stuff. They have I believe 4 albums before Hazards, and all of them are great, but those would be my two suggestions.

I "third" this. Picaresque is still my favorite. The Sporting Life cracks me up.

Hazards of Love is a lot of fun, a little pretentious, and I still have no idea what's going on in the story. I'm also still working on my project of combining certain songs so they sound better on shuffle. It was nice to hear the awesome guitar player get utilized a little more on this album.

Looking forward to hearing the new album.

I still need to get Picaresque. I like The Crane Wife, but actually think Hazards Of Love is better.

Finally got to listen to the album over the weekend and I thought it was incredible! Definitely lived up to all the hype I had heard before I got around to listening to it and I've been streaming this ever since!! Loving Calamity Song, Down by the Water & June Hymn best at the moment.

What a January so far- this, Cage the Elephant, new Iron & Wine that has been streaming- I am a very happy listener!

I listened to the Iron & Wine album over at teamcoco yesterday - I thought it was pretty cool, a different sound/direction then previous records, but cool. I haven't heard Cage the Elephant - any good?

I picked up the physical CD today - really so that I could see the lyrics for this - the depth of the song writting is incredible....not to mention the arrangment of the instruments as well, but this is a beautiful, beautiful album. Top 5 of 2011 (so far) for me!

Agreed on the Iron & Wine front! As for Cage the Elephant- so good! I definitely would pick it up, solid from front to back. Really has been impressing me!

The new album is fabulous. I get a strong R.E.M. vibe from a lot of tunes, especially Calamity Song. Not surprising, since Peter Buck plays on several tracks. I was lucky enough to be able to see The Decemberists at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland on 9/11, where they debuted a couple of the tunes off this record and I'll be seeing them at the Schnitzer Auditorium on 2/19. I love a Decemberists' hometown show!
