Favorite Ed vocal deliveries

And what I mean by vocal delivery is not necessarily the lyric itself (although that helps) but the actual delivery sung by Ed. Mine would have to be:

in Grievance: "progress laced with ramifications, freedom's big plunge..." Awesome.
in Breath from L@tG: "there's... not much more than this!" Awesome delivery, and the look on his face is great. That's the climax of the whole DVD imo.
of course the high notes of Release
the long scream in Blood is amazing

Hmm.... that's all I can think of right now.

    my two favorites:

    Release:
Oh dear dad, can you see me now
I am myself, like you some how
I wait up in the dark for you to speak to me
    I'm opened up, release me

    AND:

    Solat:
and the barrel waits, trigger shakes
    aimed right at my head

He who forgets will be destined to remember.
“Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — ‘God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.’” - Kurt Vonnegut

The mid 90s live versions of Porch. Where Ed would be be doing a really long exaggerated "hey" as the band comes out of the instrumental bridge into the last verse of the song.

I miss that, too. I also like DTE on TB2K when he says, "I am the first mammal to...EVERYTHING!"

And I would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY like to hear Hold On from Lost Dogs. That song now, weathered since its inception by the evolution of the band and their elder-statesmen-of-rock sensibilities, would KICK ASS in a live setting!

"Can I be here all alone? Clear a path to my home."

I feel in love with it years after Yield came out when I was listening on a pair of really good headphones. His entire delivery on this song is si crisp and I never fully appreciated it until I heard it through a pair of great headphones.

    Hmmmm,

Footsteps and the Lane Stanley extra track 4/20/02 strike me as really powerful performances because it's just Ed with an accoustic "venting frustration" through music.

DTE, even the akward out of breath scream at the start, is great! I like the scream even more cuz when I'm trying to do that in the car, I run out of breath too! ;)

I love the little relieved half-laugh inflection before "It's funny when things change so much ..." in the studio version of In Hiding; it's just so real (though he probably tried more than a few times to nail it the way he did).

I also totally agree with two of the posts above: he absolutely kills almost every version of "To my self, I surrender ..." in All or None (especially at the Vic), and the "I'll swallow poison ..." verse of Indifference raises hair on my arms every time.

Indeed, so many ... cool thread.

At the 2:45 mark on the I Won't Back Down cover from Live at the Gorge, Eddie's "Hey, Baby" does it for me. A ton of emotion in that deliverance. Can't remember which disc cuz there are 2 versions of this track in the set, but its the one that lasts 3:32. Great thread.

Lots of good posts on here already, especially "He who forgets...," "Won't Back Down," and Leash/"I'm by your side...."

I am gonna go with Nothingman:

"Into the Sun...oh, Into the Sun...Burn...Burn...Nothingman...."

I think it is the studio version only, no? Has he done this live?

Wow... just listened to that. I was at that show. Mike really shreds that solo starting at the 2:33 mark. Ridiculous. Thanks for the memories.
