    Tremors an Myra,

Thoughts and Opinions on the Rough Draft?

    I'm working on it.

I need a couple more run-throughs (as in : one now, and one without working at the same time to be more focused) and some time to get home from work.

    Hey electricxlovex,

Sorry about the mistake I made on the PM I sent last night.

I am glad that you like the rough draft. With that being said... What are the strong points and what are the weak points? What should be changed for Version 1?

I have this thing blasting through my house right now. Last night it got the low speaker test and the headphones test, today it is getting the loud test. I am very pleased so far.

Dimi picked a killer version of NAIS

What I was thinking too !! I like it much much better this way.

I have only tested the rough draft on headphones so far, will try it on speakers tonight.

I need to listen again more closely to :
    - God's dice
    - Evacuation
    - Rival ----> something's weird, but I can't pinpoint what.

I'm unsure whether I got you should be before or after Timeless Melody. Need to check that again too.

I got it. The lyrics. They're totally fucked up
This version is twisted, in an interesting way, though.

hey don't worry about it, it's not clear on here :D

I think God's Dice was one where I wanted to listen again.
I'm going to listen to it with headphones so I can actually hear properly - My speakers are a bit f***ked up . So I'll be able to give any proper comments then

Sorry for the delay. Been working. Am currently blackberrying from the train!

Have listened through a good few times today and I think most of the selections where we have had a discussion and a few people listening are spot on! Agree dimi's nais is KILLER. Amazing.

The points at which I am less sure if we have the best version possible, and partly because I'm not sure if we've reviewed them so much (could be wrong) are the opening two tracks, and the la's one. The exact title escapes me now, duh.

I think we should finish on timeless melody (got it!) rather than I got you, but I'm not sure if this is the best version to end on. I like it a lot, but it I've heard it performed quite differently.

I actually quite like this version of rival, though this is my all time least favourite pearl jam song, so maybe I'm not the best judge on this. I think I liked it cos half the words are missing! Lol

The other song which we haven't reviewed so much is grievance, but I'm more than happy with this, but partly cos I can remember this one lifting us off the floor at wembley. Ed was really going for it, though some of that is lost in the bootleg I fear. Selfishly I'm pleased we have a track from my first show :)

  • yep god's dice is one that maybe we could review and see if there aren't any others? I was listening to one from france today, but can't remember whether it was better or not

also just out of curiosity, how come parting ways is from seattle? did they not play it at all in europe? or were those versions not good?

love the version that we have, just curious is all

"Parting Ways" was not played until the North American tour in 2000. Since it was played at the last show of the 2000 tour, I decided to use this version as a good way to represent the end of not only the physical album, but the tour as well. (started in Europe ended in Seattle).

I wish they had of played it in Europe. I have to admit it kind of messed up my original plan to be strictly European.

Yeah I think the Parting Ways we have is perfect, and also adds a slice of something else, coming at the end of their marathon tour - the North American shows were a very different atmosphere.

I agree, we can look at God's Dice. What about Timeless Melody? Are people happy with the current version? Also, are people happy with the Prague Light Years? That is an important one to have right, and I feel will be better if we are in accord with that decision.

Ok, running though my notes again from when I was looking for it.
I initially posted them hereafter, but reading them again, it was not very, hum, clear.
Although, about Paris, I thought that the music was messed up a bit, that the vocals were ok but sort of lacked commitment.

I'm running through the different versions again right now, since I'm eventually not so pleased with the one I picked  .

It's hard though, because when you listen over, and in amongst the rest, it can sound quite different. Little quirks can become a bit offputting when you listen to the same version over again too. If you give me a shortlist of God's Dices (God's dies?) I will have a listen too.

Here's what I thought about it yesterday ;)

Could be cool to have more opinions on it though.

    Oups.
Have been away for a while and am trying to catch up. You guys worked fast when I was away !
Been listening to a lot of different versions of Light Years this morning, before realising I was running late to go to the train station and left it there.
The funny thing about this song is that, according to the show, it is totally different in mood and atmosphere. You've got 'rock-ish' light years, 'energetic' light years, even 'laid back' light years and 'softer', more intimate light years, like Prague's and Lisbon's. Katowice 2's is rather intense, all the opposite from Paris', where, as often, there's a slight lack of commitment.
This being said, I do agree that Prague's Light years works best and has the right mood for that compilation.

I've listened to this version many times since you suggested it and I think it's great for this.
I agree that it is beautiful in its own way, without any additions.
Darkness comes in waves,... tell me, why invite it to stay?

    Sure, thanks.
The ones I listened to to eventually pick Salzburg :
    - Cardiff - 2000/06/06
    - Katowice 1 - 2000/06/15
    - London 1 - 2000/05/29
    - Paris - 2000/06/08
    - Rock im Park - 2000/06/11
    - Milan - 2000/06/22
    - and Salzburg - 2000/06/18

I sort of hope I accidentally left one (or more) off the list and it's killer.

That's great to know, thanks, especially since I think it was you who suggested the original one we had wasn't it? It's hard making decisions about this song, for many reasons. Out of the 7 or 8 versions I listened to I preferred Prague because it was quite soft, and clear, yet also quite intense, with a flawless vocal from Ed in lots of ways.

    Thanks for the feedback

About God's dice, we can rule London 1 off, since Ed goes like 'I might have fucked up than one a little bit' at the end. So I don't think we want that one :D
I find the way the vocals start on Cardiff and Katowice 1 a bit disturbing.
So IMO that leaves us with :
    -Paris
    -Rock im Park, Nurnberg
    -Milan
    and Salzburg
to pick the right version from. Unless I missed one. Or more.

  • oh okay. No the Parting Ways we have is beautiful, love it.

I was on pearljambootlegs.org and was listening to a Parting Ways that was apparently from a 1996 soundcheck? sounded great, don't know if it was actually in 1996 because I've seen errors in the dates and set lists before.

    anyway back to the subject

Listening to some God's Dices right now :)
Both Poland and Cardiff have rough starts, especially Cardiff. Ed mixes up the first and second verses in the Poland version, forgets a bit of the third at the end. But there's more passion and commitment in that one than Cardiff I think.
London was more tighter in terms of the band and ed himself, there was passion. I liked it a lot.
Paris was good. I liked it, the start was good. Not as much drive in the vocals in some parts.
Germany - Liked this one a lot. Feels a bit more fast paced than the others.Last verse and chorus is killer. Love the ending.
Italy - I love this one because normally Ed's been mixing the second and third verses on all the others. On this one he gets it right, but then he must've thought he sung it wrong because we get a nice switch between verses and then a switch again. Love it. This one also has a more aggressive, stronger ending.
Austria - Like this one a lot too. Lyrics though mixed up are sung great, one of the few versions  And the band sounds on point. Loved it by itself, will have to listen to it after Breakerfall to see if I like it better now.

I would go for either Germany or Salzburg.
Paris is alright. Ed gets the lyrics right (even though the verses are switched as usual - i don't know why he didn't just record them that way, since he seems so used to switching them ) But towards the end, it doesn't hold up to the Germany / Salzburg/ Italy IMO
they have much more aggressive, stronger endings. which would fit with Evacuation nicely since that starts off so strong.

So for me it's either Germany/Italy/Salzburg.
