Generation Kill was only one season but it was pretty damn good. About the Iraq war and done by the same guys that did the Wire.

If you're looking for a comedic spin as opposed to the drama and suspense mentioned already,
check out Bored To Death on HBO.
Its a quick, half hour turnaround,....
Funny stuff, takes place all over Brooklyn , NY.
Zach Galifinaikas and Ted Danson are hilarious .

I watched the first 2 episodes of Boardwalk Empire and just thought it was ok. I have been meaning to go back to it, but am just never in the mood. It's on my on demand until the beginning of Jan. so I need to watch it soon!

Yeah I watched it over the last year when they would put new shows on demand. It was a fantastic show. I think the season with the kids was my favorite.

you've got to let it breath...they take a while to develop the characters early on so it might seem to be moving slow for a few episodes. it get's real interesting about 5 episodes in.

the writing is so f@cking good

If you liked Lucky Louie on HBO check out Louie on FX. Or watch Eastbound and Down again or get Season 1 DVD with outtakes, deleted scenes, etc. Really good.

Carnivale was really great! Only 2 seasons (HBO)...which sucks because it ends on such a cliffhanger and they didn't come back. So good, though.

Also, I didn't see it on your list...but Homeland on Showtime is really great. It started in 2011 and the first season just ended. Definitely worth a watch!
