not sure if you're only looking for shows on HBO & showtime...

I am currently watching Mad Men season 2 on Netflix and it's pretty good. worth checking out if you haven't seen it

If you liked Lucky Louie on HBO check out Louie on FX. Or watch Eastbound and Down again or get Season 1 DVD with outtakes, deleted scenes, etc. Really good.

Its not HBO or showtime, but is every bit as good. Breaking Bad on AMC is another great one

Yeah I will go with this too it is not HBO or Showtime but AMC is going for a similar drama style that you normally only get away with on HBO or Showtime.

I've only watched season one but I enjoyed it.

If you're looking for a comedic spin as opposed to the drama and suspense mentioned already,
check out Bored To Death on HBO.
Its a quick, half hour turnaround,....
Funny stuff, takes place all over Brooklyn , NY.
Zach Galifinaikas and Ted Danson are hilarious .
For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside
That it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive
