See, I guess that's the difference between old PJ film/TV appearances and new ones. All those old ones are pretty good movies, or the band actually had some connection to the movie or its filmmakers, etc... Well maybe not Surf's Up... but the song totally fit that one and it was just a kid's movie. (and I actually never saw Judgment Night... was it any good?)
Now, they're just selling songs for any old tv appearance, artistic or not, quality or not, just cause "the times have changed" and that's what bands do nowadays... or at least that's how the PJ Can Do No Wrong fans justify it. Yeah, they can do what they want, but it just comes off as totally cheesy to me. Mostly because I guarantee you no one in Pearl Jam actually watches these shows (obviously not including Fringe, and maybe one other one... but you think the guys sit on their couch watching Brothers and Sisters every week? Can you picture Ed telling someone "I love that show. Great writing.")
I don't know if anyone mentioned the Katherine Heigel cheesefest Life as we Know It (or whatever it was called) movie. Didn't see it, but I can guarantee you it's a cheesy crappy movie (Peter Travers destroyed it). And it featured... all together now, Just Breathe.
This is interesting, I didn't realize that PJ has been featured on TV shows this much. I'll have to take time and click links as soon as I finish my term paper....
There was an episode a while back on Friday Night Lights where they played 'Come Back'.
This is the only footage I can find on You Tube - not the greatest, but you get the idea:

I agree that it's their music and they can do what they wish with it but it's gotten to the point where they are selling it to some really cheesy stuff and it's bastardizing the music. I think if I was a part of a smaller band that hasn't quite hit it big yet, and a tv show or commercial came calling, I would probably give into it. But when you are as established and rich as Pearl Jam, and you previously spoke out about not giving your music for commercial use, it just comes across as bad. I think the tide turned for me when I found out they were in One Tree Hill. The band that wrote Leash and Get Out of My Fucking face actually sold their song to a prim-time soap opera for 18-25 year old girls. Seriously? They are that strapped for cash and are so unconcerned with integrity anymore? Wasn't integrity all they stood for at one point?
But again, they can do whatever they wish with their songs and laugh all the way to the bank. I'm not going to stop listening to them for it but I have lost a bit of respect for them. I'm sure they really care

Haven't you heard? They have families to feed now! (I love it when that's the excuse people use for selling out these days....)
Totally agree with everything you said. It's like anyone who wants it can have Just Breathe on their shitty TV show... to "reach people who wouldn't normally listen to PJ." Hey, maybe those people should buy a CD once a year, or turn on a radio, or seek out music, then. I lost some respect when they did a commercial with the Target logos all over the screen behind them on stage... I guess from there, TV shows just add to the crap. I'm with you, I'm not going to stop listening to them or loving the music, but it's just cheesy as all hell. That's about all I can say.

I think of the 13 million albums Ten has sold, probably half were purchased by 18-25 year old girls

yea i had a better video. but nbc doesn't allow videos on youtube
and off-topic - laura prepon was a smokin' hot mommy on that show.
She's a fan from what I've read about her. And she dated the brother of Danny Masterson(who is also a big fan).
