I haven't but I have family and friends that bear hunt here in Wisconsin. I've sent this N.J. bear hunt story to some of them for their reaction. Here in Wisconsin it takes 6 yrs to get a bear hunting tag. You can bait but only for a certain number of days. The bear count used to be somewhere around 10,000 15 yrs ago. Now the count is over 100,000 bears. Most are in middle to north part of the state.

    Over 100,000 now?

That's good to hear. Do you think we will get to a point when the bear population is 310 million and the human population is 100,000?

He says he eats it though. I've never heard of people eating bear before.
    Still sucks either way.

Can't even bear to look at it...no pun intended.

My SIL says he eats bear too, although I've never know him to do so.

This whole thing sux..there were only an "estimated" 3400 bears in the state to begin with. I don't see the reasoning behind this at all.

    Trophies, thats all i see.

    Shameful
    peace,

we lived in northeast iowa for a few years when i was young.
we believe a black bear ran us out of this trout steam one night (or early morning) late. this thing was
tearing the forest apart right across the stream from us; snappin sticks and brush, roaring-grunting like mad...

time to go, simple as that.
i was about 5 years old.
dad and his friend were very for real so it wasnt just me (some little kid) scared shitless
actually i recall them being more terrified than myself
    kids don't know any better...

Respectfully, hunting is necessary to keep certain populations in check.

Interesting statement – I guess even humans are fair game when it comes to population control. I was helping a friend organize his thesis cards and your statement reminded me of one of his cards, which supports the theme that “The goal is always the kill”.

Thomas Ferguson, State Department Office of Population Affairs

“There is a single theme behind all our work–we must reduce population levels. Either governments do it our way, through nice clean methods, or they will get the kinds of mess that we have in El Salvador, or in Iran or in Beirut. Population is a political problem. Once population is out of control, it requires authoritarian government, even fascism, to reduce it…. “Our program in El Salvador didn’t work. The infrastructure was not there to support it. There were just too goddamned many people…. To really reduce population, quickly, you have to pull all the males into the fighting and you have to kill significant numbers of fertile age females…. “The quickest way to reduce population is through famine, like in Africa, or through disease like the Black Death….” –Thomas Ferguson, State Department Office of Population Affairs, Latin American Desk, February 1981 interview
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.
