Where Are You Kids Downloading Music From These Days?

i used to use kazaa back in the day until it slowed my computer down to a crawl...hopped on the itunes bandwagon but am getting tired of having to pay for everything i download from there :)....can you reccomend any sites that are safe that you are using by any chance?

    You know it would be better to not writing this...
    I use BitTorrent, sometimes Emule (but it's very slow), and for rarities Orbit downloader.
    As I know Kazaa has a spy program or sth inside...
    I used to dl by bitcomet, but that needs big RAM (becouse of browser), so I changed it.
    Aha.Sometimes i use Moorhunt - for p2m, but the choice of music is not so big, and I couldn't find anything interesting for me...

    I enjoy the use of Soulseek. I enjoy Soulseek because instead of programs like Kazaa/Ares/Limewire etc., where you mostly just download one song at a time type thing, you can download full albums! I don't do the whole torrent thing, and this is why I enjoy Soulseek...you can get albums without them being a torrent.

    Exactly. Same situation here, plus I have two kids that are music fiends too.

    I also need to help figuring out what i need/want for an external hard drive to store all my music on. I have a Dell that is less than two years old and it is already so full it wont do a back up.
    ? We have 5 "user" accounts... and each user has iTunes. Does Vista make a redundant copy of every song?

    And while I am unintentionally hi-jacking a thread...

    Should I switch to a Mac?

    I have a Maxtor Onetouch 500 Gig external hard drive...had it now for probably a year? It works beautifully! :)

    I buy all my CDs in the store and legally put the music onto my computer.

    Now that the FBI stopped reading this post, I use Azureus as my BitTorrent client, and get my torrents of The Pirate Bay.

    check out the Verbatim 250GB Firewire drives ... $120, palm-sized, no external powers supply. I did a bunch of looking around a few weeks ago, settled on this and couldn't be happier. Works flawlessly and is highly reviewed elsewhere - very sweet. I'm purchasing 2 more.

    bittorent FTW. but I buy most of my music... i havent downloaded a single PJ cd other than boots like everyone else does.

    I have a 320 ext hd for pJ songs and vids. and my book tb for family vids and other music and vids. I may zipp my pJ files and store them here as a back up.

    Surprisingly, i use NAPSTER. I figured I used it to steal music all during college, may as well pay for the service now. The thing is, you don't own the music and can't burn a cd unless you BUY those songs. But while you are a napster subscriber, you have access to all songs you've d/l and can copy songs to a digital music player of your choice...ipods, etc as there are no digital protections like there used to be. Most cars allow you to listen to an player via a radio station transmitter or most new cars (like my 2008 Altima) have auxilary input jacks now where you directly plug into the system. You just have to occasionally connect your player and refresh the license so you can use them. How many of us spend $14 on a cd, put it in rotation and then a few months later it's collecting dust? Plus, you can listen before you buy in a lot of cases. Some bands like RHCP make you pay for the songs to even listen to the whole thing, but a majority of the artists are fully available. Pearl Jam even has all their discs AND a TON of concert bootlegs on there. I believe Napster is $14 a month or something. Not bad considering that's the price of 1 Itunes d/l. If you type in a specific band it'll also give you a ton of suggestions and you could find some artists that you really enjoy that you never even heard about. You could always do that, and if you really like a disc, then d/l it via the torrents (that's what I do). :-)

    Try it out for free...I think they have some kind of trial.

    µTorrent is the best torrent client. Very lightweight and fast.

    I actually still buy albums and rip them to my music library (either digitally or CD).

    Not going on rant or anything, but I figure if I like someones music enough, I'll buy the album and support the artist.

    Yep soulseek is great, the download containg folder feature is amazing and they have so many users you can find pretty much anything on there. Just make sure you share some folders so you dont get banned by some anal users!
