I think I read somewhere that the movie has to have shot with 3d cameras during the filming of the movie or it will look bad. Maybe Lucas has some new tech. But I've always been fond of the seventies sci-fi and early eighties the way they were. Movies like Alien and Blade Runner had that dark heavy mechanical feel to the future. Ultimately it's perfect the way they were probably.0

That's my understanding too. Otherwise you get a flat, layered look. When I saw Alice In Wonderland in 3D, it looked flat and layered to me in the theater. Sure enough, later I found out it was not shot in 3D but made into 3D afterwards.ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

Interesting...if that's the case this could be a real let down. I dont' see how he's going to get around it. Sounds like it's going to be poor 3DCJMST3K wrote:marcos wrote:I think I read somewhere that the movie has to have shot with 3d cameras during the filming of the movie or it will look bad.

a 3d movie needs to be shot in 3d...avatar is completely 3d whereas i think just about every other 3d movie that has come out this year has been computer rendered to 3d which is how lucas will do it with star wars...it will look like shit0

Yup. To go further into unnecessary detail (from my laymen mind), just think about how a pair of eyes work. If you're looking at someone's face a few feet in front of you, your left eye is getting a little more view of the left side of the person's nose and head, and your right eye is getting a little more view of the persons right side of his nose and right side of his head. If the person's head is slightly askew, your right eye might not see his left ear but your left eye will. All of these differences between what one eye sees and the other eye sees makes something look three-dimensional. So just like in real life, if you are filming with two cameras, and separating the left camera with your left eye and right camera with your right eye with glasses, it should look very similar to real life.
Now if you are instead shooting with one camera, the image looks flat. Separating the flat image into background, foreground, etc, they might be able to make several flat layers look like they have depth between each other, but to me it's still just a bunch of flat layers. If they reproduce some of the explosions with true 3D effects, that may make up for some of the potential short comings, but I don't see this being anywhere near as clear and seamlessly 3D as Avatar.ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

3D just needs to stop too. Damn near everything is 3D nowadays. A fucking documentary about miniature ponies in Bangladesh is probably gonna be in 3D.
 (actually I would see mini-ponies in 3D but that's besides the point).0
