Really, I love Star Wars, but what is the point of this, besides making money I mean?

    YES!!!

    I'm with you.

Everything else in 3D doesn't mean shit to me. This seems like the only thing worthy of it...even if it's clearly Lucas's cash cow.

my thinking too. i do think 3D is ruining movies, but this has bad ass potential.

With Star Wars on it (the original trilogy), what doesn't?

Recently they had the Salt Lake symphony play Star Wars music at the Jazz's stadium....you bet your ass if I had the money I would've been there.

Vader costume and all. I would've brought a joint too.

I remember hearing months ago that if it costs 50 million dollars to upgrade an existing movie to being 3D, that the hundreds of millions it would bring in make it worth it.

I hope it doesn't look like layered-flat 3D. I'll check it out, but they better do it right.

...and if they put real lasers or something coming out of the screen, then that would be really cool :D

I contend that George's earlier films (Raiders, Star Wars, etc) are FAR superior to his later films (Crystal Skull, Phantom Menace) because he had technological and financial limitations when filming. Once he had all the means in the world, he took a winning formula and thought overhauling it would be best. Instead, he's destroying his own art. He's so focused on trees, he doesn't see the forest.

...the sad part, some kids down the road who first see Phantom Menace and Crystal Skull, and going to prefer his later stuff over his earlier stuff.

But as far as 3D goes, if it's done right, I wouldn't mind it at all. But I don't trust George to make the right call anymore.

yep...that's why i feel movies now a days are increasingly boring...computers have destroyed imagination in production

I think I read somewhere that the movie has to have shot with 3d cameras during the filming of the movie or it will look bad. Maybe Lucas has some new tech. But I've always been fond of the seventies sci-fi and early eighties the way they were. Movies like Alien and Blade Runner had that dark heavy mechanical feel to the future. Ultimately it's perfect the way they were probably.

That's my understanding too. Otherwise you get a flat, layered look. When I saw Alice In Wonderland in 3D, it looked flat and layered to me in the theater. Sure enough, later I found out it was not shot in 3D but made into 3D afterwards.

  • i could see lucas starting from scratch with alot of stuff anyway... you think he's actually happy with that ping pong table death star trench now?? he'll probably computer animate ever fight scene and add the 3D as he goes

and we will all be PISSED

...like music number in jaba's palace PISSED

    (I'll still see it)

Interesting...if that's the case this could be a real let down. I dont' see how he's going to get around it. Sounds like it's going to be poor 3D

a 3d movie needs to be shot in 3d...avatar is completely 3d whereas i think just about every other 3d movie that has come out this year has been computer rendered to 3d which is how lucas will do it with star wars...it will look like shit
