IMMAGINE IN CORNICE: Extra Features: Bocce Ball? Meaning?

So i'm sitting here drinking whiskey and watching Immagine In Cornice and i hit up the special features.
A friend called and i had it just sitting on the menu screen for a while.
I can't help but wonder what exactly is going on here, and also, the subtle implied meaning.
Is this bocce ball?
What happens each of the three times the ball is thrown?
What it appears to me is something like
1. really good throw, that just goes beyond what may be a "foul line"? ie. great effort, failure. :(
2. pure sillyness or maliciousness? deliberately knocks the jack ball, but scores no points? (no idea? rules? anyone?)
3. perfection
[end sequence]
i really like the sublte "message",
but would like clarification on the game, the rules, and what exactly is transpiring. Also, interpretations always accepted.

why pure bullshit?
can ANYONE clarify what is going on, per the actual rules of bocce ball, during these three throws?
The first one, the roll is very good and gets right next to the jack, but it knocks the jack, and then the ball rolls just past the "foul" line? As i have no idea what that line means i don't know what it indicates, but i am assuming it means the ball doesn't count?
The second one, the guy just seemingly deliberately smashes his ball in to the jack. What did this accomplish?
The third one .. it does indeed seem to be perfection.
I'm not sure why i just got called out as "pure bullshit" on this, except for maybe someone was having a pissy moment. :rolleyes:
