I really don't know what I'd say to him. I'd probably freeze up... He's pretty much... Godly to me. I've met many football players and I feel as if I would just be absolutely star struck. I'd probably just say "omg thank you so much for your music." over and over.

Whos been lucky?

  • Met him outside one of the solo shows in DC. There were tons of people around. I just shook his hand. BUT, me and my buddy were wandering around Memphis before a solo show and ran into him outside his hotel. It was just us three. We pretty much froze up. Didn't have a camera or anything. We just shook hands, he complimented my WM3 shirt and stuff, then he wished us well and got on the bus. I'm a loser :(

I met him twice (shook his hand) and spoke to him a few years back. A nice guy, who is very sincere. Appeared to hang off every word I said.

  • Met him, shook his hand, gave him a hug. Told him his music was really important to me. He said thanks, and gave me another hug before he left.

I met him a couple of times...
First time was outside Royce Hall (UCLA), then, after the RAC gig at the Wiltern. And after the Hulabaloo show and again at UCLA after the Pearl Jam rehearsals for the VH! thing. He was really nice to everyone and had everyone line up if they wanted something signed. I got an ATP programme signed the first time... then, my San Francisco tamborine... but the other times, just to say, "Hey..." and shake his hand and talk about small stuff. Got a couple of guitar picks handed to me in those exchanges. Yeah... he's a pretty nice guy.
    ...
But, the nicest guy is Mike.

I am so jealous reading this thread. So cool!

I would be one of the people who would completely botch such a meeting. If it went anything like when I met Olympian Dan Jansen this summer, it would go like:

    UD: "You're Eddie Vedder!"
EV: "Yes I know. Nice to meet you."
UD: "Nice to meet you too, Eddie Vedder! Nobody will believe this!"
EV: "Would you like to take a photo?"
UD: "My hands are shaking too much because you're Eddie Vedder!"
(at this point Mr. Unlost takes a photo)
    UD: "Thank you Eddie Vedder!"
Mr. Unlost: "Please stop saying Eddie Vedder."

Yeah. It would be that cool.
    Sadly, that is verbatim.

  • Met him outside of Berkeley and got my poster signed.

Met him outside of Chicago, shook his hand, and we chatted for a moment with my husband because he is an Iraq vet.
  • HE IS THE ONLY MEMBER I HAVEN'T HAD A CONVO WITH

  • he's just another guy. people forget that. every celebrity is just another human in the world but social media blows things out of proportion so instead treating someone like when go to your local pub with a local band and talk and drink with said local band, we create a stigma in which bodyguards and security must be positioned as people fiend for something more and put these people in another category of "unworldliness." it's how these "celebrities" live their lives. It'd be like a group of people running up to you everytime you went to your job looking for autographs, pictures, etc.

I don't understand why the word "role model" is so scarcely used in situations like this...

you hear "he's godly" "he's this, he's that"

he's a role model to you if you look up to him - and that's something that should be expressed instead of your vision of "freezing up"

take a step back and think for a minute and you'll realize it too.

  • First time I froze up, it was so amazing. The second time I had it thought out. I got to meet him after the WM3 benefit. I told him that I just wanted him to know how much I and the rest of his fans not only love him and his music, but we respect him so much for all that he does like this (the WM3) and it means so much to us that he takes the time to do this stuff. He also acted like he remembered us from the first time, but he may have just been being nice (however, I choose to believe that I saw the light bulb come on his his head, lol). He is a really nice person and I meant every word I said to him, it really did come from my heart.
    Hearts and thoughts they fade....

I am at peace with my lust.....for Eddie.
  • Never thought I'd be among the lucky, but I had a short conversation and hug with him a couple years ago in Boston. I was wearing the EV pick shirt and he complimented it twice- I think he thought I didn't hear him the first time. Anticipating that our meeting would be short, I gave him a letter that he read and thanked me for on stage that evening. Quite possibly the most exciting day of my life so far
  • I've met all of the guys except for Matt. I met Eddie in Atlanta in 2000. After our conversation, I had no idea what I said to him. He was very nice and gracious. I met the other guys at different times a few years ago in Boston. My friend and I ran into Mike on the street. My friend was looking at a map and I was on the opposite cornerof the street. Mike walked past me and I called his name. He turned around and came back to talk to me. Once my friend realized what was going on, he quickly came to where we were standing. Mike asked us what we were doing and we told him we were walking the Freedom Trail. He told us he was doing the same and asked if we wanted to join him. We hung out for the rest of the day and took pictures together at different stops. We had great conversation and he even asked for song requests for the next 2 nights. It was rather surreal. We were taken on a private tour of the USS Constitution. I even have a picture of Mike taking a picture of my friend at Bunker Hill. Later on that same trip, we met Stone walking his dog in the Boston Common and literally ran into Jeff coming out of the door of a hotel. He apologized profusely for almost knocking me down. We saw and talked to Mike a couple of more times before we left Boston to head back to Alabama. That trip was crazy and it's still hard to believe all of the events that took place. Mike even asked us if we wanted to go to sound check the day before the first show and my friend said "aww, man, you don't have to do that." I could have killed my friend in that moment. It was still awesome and something to tell.
  • met him twice. first time in Memphis during his 2009 solo show. the day before the show, i saw him arriving at his hotel. just me and my brother standing there. we froze up, thought it might have been him and by the time we knew for sure he was just about in the door. we took a step forward and his bodyguard just looked at us and shook his head no. next day waited outside for him to arrive for soundcheck. he got off his bus stepped towards us and waved. after the show we went strait to the side door. i was standing against the wall and a security guy told me to move. i took a step and all of a sudden Eddie came running by. of course i ran after him as he went to his bus. we waited a couple of hours and he finally came out and shook hands. all I could say was "great show" . :D

Also met him at the WM3 show in Little Rock. Lined up for a handshake and again said "great show".

  • This thread makes me jealous that he chose not to play a solo show in Seattle, nor did he visit us at the release party for Backspacer at Easy Street Records :(. Living in the same town as him, I hope to bump into him one day. But like the others have said, I'd probably freeze up and maybe ask him to autograph whatever I am wearing. And maybe give him a hard time about hating on the Seattle crowds.

I probably haven't met anyone from the band casue I'd probably scare them.. lol I have so much to thank them for.. the lyrics, the music. pressing on when no one else but US (meaning the true fans, the ones who buy albums... not just Ten), paid attention. I would not know what to sday first, but personally I don't care.. If I never meet any of them in my lifetime, it's all good ,just keep writing for me is all I ask..

Very briefly after the Belfast gig. Shook hands and thanked him for the Joe Strummer tribute the night before - he seemed pleased and kindof did a double take when he took in what I'd said. In the very brief time in his presence he seemed a very humble and genuine bloke - would love the opportunity for a longer chat!

Would also love to bump into the other guys at some point.....

  • I met Ed back in 1998, was very unexpected, But an amazing expereince in my life that has not left me...

I was out the front of the hotel where the band had been staying, I had met all the others and had not really expected to meet Ed AT ALL! Anyway i was standing out front talking to some people when i noticed a guy coming toward me with another dude behind him, to my TOTAL Shock and surprise, when i noticed it was Ed i didn't freak out like i thought i would have. I simply walked up to him and said " Hi Ed" to which he replied " Y'know i'll sign anything y'want, but no Photo's".. I was absolutley fine with this... TOTALLY Had to respect his wishes.

He was the Nicest guy, took time to speak to everyone who was there and it was absolutley WONDERFUL!!, He signed all my Holiday singles and even signed my personal Diary w/t a personal message ( it's up on my FB Page.. not quite sure how to put pics up here..) I have it framed with a few other momentos from this day.

What i am most thankful for, is the fact that i got to thank Ed for what he and PJ have done for me and gotten me through. I didn't wanna look or sound like a Crazy Woman, but i Said what I had to, and he was so gracious and nice about it. Trust me I am so Thankful that i did say something, Because i know that if i HADN'T of said something on that day and missed my chance, I would be kicking myself in the ASS To this VERY Day.

I met Ed in both DC and Baltimore for his solos shows. There were other people, and it wasn't easy to have a nice chat. I just got a few words in with a handshake. I still haven't met anyone else from the band tho, although I've missed Mike by seconds a few times.
  • I met Ed backstage in Camden in 06. Very nice guy, the whole band was nice. Took me to the dressing room before the show, and then Eddie invited me to hang out in his dressing room and have a few beers after the show. I was speechless. He handed me an autographed tamborine and cd and we had a few heinekens. Best night of my life. Their photographer took a shot of Ed and I, but i still haven't recieved it. Oh well. Still the best night ever.

  • I also met Ed in Ireland, but back in 1996, in the country drizzle outside the Green Glens Arena in Millstreet. He was very gracious and asked us as many questions about Ireland as we asked him. What struck me most about him was that, even with other people around, when you talk to him, he really does focus on you and give you his full, genuine attention. We talked briefly about SelfPollution Radio, and about Hovercraft. He divulged the nugget that his repalcement on the drumstool for that band was none other than Dave Krusen. He signed tickets and we had a group hug. Later from the stage, he acknowledged us by saying that Ireland seemed to have nice people, though he only knew the people in the front.

Just missed out on meeting him (and Mike) again in Dublin in June.

  • I have been lucky enough to meet Ed twice. The first time was after a solo show in memphis and the second time was after the WM3 benefit show in little rock. Both times he was very nice and gracious enough to personally shake hands and meet everyone who was outside waiting. Both times i didnt know what to say so i stuck with the classics "great show" and "thanks for the music".

I, too, met him after the Memphis solo show in 2009. I told him thank you for playing "Millworker," and we talked about that for a second. The whole ride back home I couldn't believe that I'd met Eddie Vedder. :D Awesome, just awesome.

I met him in Montreal after a solo show in 2008. Luckily the right words (which were also heartfelt) fell from my mouth as he was signing playbills without looking up at the few of us that managed to be in the right place at the right time. He looked up at me, said 'Thank You' and did a double take at me before looking down to finish signing my playbill. Then he handed it back to me, looked at me and gave me the greatest compliment of my life (said I was beautiful). I don't care if he meant what he said (though I'd like to), it boosted my self confidence like nothing else ever has. An awesome moment. :) And I've met Jeff at a deli after a show. The nicest and most grounded guy on Earth.
