One of my friends in high school was named by his mom after Elton John’s song “Daniel”. He hated that his parents named him after a song so much that he legally changed his name as soon as he could.
Of course, once my other friends found out he was named after an Elton John song, we teased the hell out of him. I would think that our upcoming generations will respect Pearl Jam but you never know.

"Vedder" is becoming common. Common = Boring! Go for the obvious: Name him or her "Pearl Jam."
Pearl Jam is only two easy syllables. It works well as a first name. You can make the rest of the name as simple or complex as you like. For example, you could name your son Pearl Jam Nigel Martin. Or Pearl Jam Alexander Valentino Cooper-Martin.
You could name your daughter Pearl Jam Eleanor Martin. Or Pearl Jam Remiah Noelle Cooper-Martin.
I don't know about for a kid (when the mistake eventually happens...)
But me and my girlfriend (living together 2 + years now) have been talking about a dog for a while.... when she was suggesting names for the dog the 2nd or 3rd one to come out of her mouth was "Corduroy"... and that was it, conversation over. The dog will be named Corduroy... I thought it was funny... she's not even a real Pearl Jam fan... knows a couple of tunes, but that's about it... and one of them is not corduroy..
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.
It is hard to come up with names that are meaningful to you but also not too out there that the child doesn't get too picked on because of it.

I know a lady who's children are named after the songs Lukin and Jeremy. The kids both love that they are named after a song that their parents love so much! Lukin's friends think it is great that his name is PJ related!

So, I'm weird. :? My child's first name is the last name of a musician, who I love, respect, and admire; along with most of the world. People love his name and so does my son (It's not super weird off-the-wall name, there are actually a few other kids that I've heard of having it, but they are few and far in between, so it is unique, but not weird). My son's actually met Eddie a couple of times and when Eddie asked his name, he thought it was so cool that we named him after the person we did. Anyway, that's just my two cents and the next child that we have, we will stick to our theme and do so proudly, because our child/children are special to us and we want them to have a special name!

Ummm.... if you read my post, you will note that Bob Dylan had nothing to do with the name. Rather Dylan Thomas whom I admire as a writer and it also means 'son of the sea' (I have ties to the ocean/sea). I wouldn't just name a kid 'after' someone - the etymology/history and meaning of names is important. Also, I guess you know that Dylan isn't Bob's real last name.... Same with George Michael... But yeah, if I were to call my kid Zimmerman or Panayiotou (Dylan's and Michal's real last names), it would be weird.

She wasn't high when she named her (she's actually pretty far from the 'hippie type'). But rainbows have a deep spiritual meaning for her, so I just feel that it's not my place to judge. She put more thought & heart into naming her child than a couple of my other friends, who named their sons because they liked the 'ring' of it. They don't even know each other, but they join 4 of my other friends with sons that have the same name... you know, the one that has ranked #1 most popular for 3 years? (I'd rather have a unique name than be swimming in a sea of "Jacobs." ) That being said, it was still their decision to make, for whatever reasons they wanted.

So a 'sea of Jacobs' (or whatever name) can be just as meaningful as a Rainbow.

I know "Jacob" can be meaningful... it is for 4 of my friends. I was just speaking about 2 out of those 6 friends that named their kids that recently. It really has no meaning for them, & those kids could have just as much trouble with that name, growing up, as someone named "Vedder," but for different reasons. You see, 2 of my closest friends are also named "Colleen." We pretty much lost our first names because of it- the kids started calling us by our last names to distinguish us. I would have preferred being called just about anything besides "Halsdorff," but that's what happens!
My girl is not a big PJ fan, she went with me to Camden 2 in 2003 because she is a Buzzcocks fan and they were opening...we just had our second son on Thursday and still didn't have a name picked out. We got close to using Jeremy (not my suggestion) but in the end it was me who said no because I didn't want to have to explain to all my friends and family that the child was NOT named after that messed-up kid who blew his brains out in a classroom in a music video...if we were going to go PJ-related, I would have gone for Stone. Awesome name.

My wife is pregnant right now and we are going to use Edward as a middle name for a boy, and Pearl as a middle name if it is a girl.
My daughters middle name is Pearl(full name is Jacqueline Pearl) and we get compliments on how pretty her name is all the time. Only our close friends know the Pearl is for the band, obviously-but we've gotten many compliments on her middle name. Congrats on the impending parenthood!

Both my wife and I are huge Pearl Jam fans and big music fans as well. So we both were on board the names of our twin boys: Quinn Vedder and Jagger Zen.
We don't conform to society that well and didn't want to give our sons traditional names because we are not traditional ourselves.
