Ed says: "I don't know what else to say, what I can say is, if someone was hurt to the point where they didn't live after tonight. I don't think we'd ever play again, some bands they continue on, I wouldn't be able to do it. Music is not that important."
Pretty weird knowing what happens 4 years later :( Im glad they did not stop playing music though.

I was at that randalls show. I remember Ed saying that. The pit was raging and he stopped the show a few times. ed also Told the crowd in front they belong in the loony bin. It is a shame what happened years later but I guess the show must go on.EV Solo NY 8/4,5/08

That day and that show was unbelievable...It was altogether an incredible experience. That was one of the craziest pits I've ever seen as well.Columbia 96/98;Randall's Island 96;Tibetan Freedom 97;Late Show 98;Camden 98/00/03/06/08;E Rutherford 98/06;MSG 98/03/08;VF Choice (DC) 98;Uniondale 03;State College 03;Holmdel 03;VF Change (Reading) 04;AC 05;Philly 05; Lolla 07.....[EV Newark 08]0

ah, memories......
that show kicked my 19 year old ass.
i left with bruises on my ribs, which i was so proud of.
the funniest thing about that show, is that i remember them playing Last Exit, and saying to my then-boyfriend "oh, this must be the end--great song to go out on!"
Now, this was my first PJ show, and before the days of setlists on the internet, so i had no clue that they played longer than other artists, and would play a marathon 3 hour set....most shows i'd seen ran about an hour and a half, so this felt right to me. And then they kept going, and going......Turns out Last Exit was about half way through the set.
good shit."Find myself singing the same songs every day....
ones that make me feel good when things behind the smile ain't ok...." -Hoon0 -
I listened to my boot of that show a month or so ago only to realize that Jack Johnson plays on Soon Forget, which is cool since I am pretty sure JJ didn't have his own album out until four year later or so and Soon Forget didn't arrive until two albums after that tour.
Has to be one of the all time best shows I've ever attended.
Edit: I wonder if I just got a weird boot of that show though. Can anyone confirm if soon forget was played at Randall's with Jack Johnson?"Goddamn Romans. Sure know how to make a ... drum room." --Matt Cameron0 -
My first PJ show ever...It took them many years to play a longer show...it will be sweet whenever they decide to play there again, count me in on that show.God Loves Pearl Jam0

Lol - no way dude. Made me laugh
Let me inform before the crazy police inform you harshly.
1. While it is possible that soon forget was written before it's release on Binaural in 2000, and that EV and Jack Johnson were friends way back then.....No, JJ did not play Soon Forget at this show, nor was soon forget ever played prior to 2000.
2. It's probably from some JJ show where he does cover the song...has done so on more than a few occasions.

My fav part of this is where after you posted it, you had that moment of "wait a second..." and posted the edit. It reminds me of when you hear a crazy story as a kid and always believe it, and then one day as an adult you're telling the story out loud and have that revelation that changes your world. It's always a sad moment though, so I'm sorry. :(<a href="http://www.shawnsmithsinger.com">Shawn Smith</a> / <a href="http://www.thebandbrad.com">Brad</a> / <a href="http://www.allhailthecrown.com">All Hail the Crown</a> / <a href="http://www.satchelpartnership.com">Satchel</a>

I hope that doesn't set the next post up as that you are now a 28 year old ugly fat girl now?
hehe sorry - had to make the joke just based on your phrasing.
I was 14 years old at the time and kept getting crushed up front...had to get out a few songs in.9/29/96, 8/29/98, 9/8,11/98, 7/28/99, 8/23,24,25/00, 10/13/00, 4/15/03, 4/30/03, 7/8,9,12,14/03, 10/1/04, 9/30/05, 10/1/05, 5/4,5,13,27,28/06, 6/1,3/06, 6/19,20,22,24,25,27/08, 7/1/08, 8/4,5,7,16/08, 8/21/09, 10/27,28,30,31/09, 5/15,17,18,20,21/10, 9/2/12, 10/18,19,21,22,25/130 -
That pit was pretty bad and I do recall Ed getting quite pissed.. Honestly that is what happens when everyone pushes towards the stage as well. I lost one of my pant legs in there and had a pretty good sized bump on my head from hitting the ground.
Does anyone remember them shooting (water) Super soakers into the crowd that day? Not the band of course but I guess it would be the venue.Thats a lovely accent you have. New Jersey?

If anyone has a good CD boot of this show I would love to get my hands on a copy. My copy was lost when my 1979 Buick Regal was stolen. Please PM me. Thanks!0

Does anyone have a link to ANY video from this show? I searched youtube, and there's tons of '96 clips, but none i could find from this show.
