Courtney Love and Hole cover Jeremy

  • I think at one point she said "come on, you love this" in an effort to encourage the crowd to join in.

I'm not commenting at all on their interpretation or the rendition of this song. However, I will say that I'm confused by the purpose of the clothing selected for this show. Did she intend to not wear any but then kind of forgot? or did she intend to wear more and then kind of forgot?... I want to give her a blanket to cover up. :wtf:

While I dont think she can sing, I will have to say that I did kind of dig the guy playing guitar. Just kind of liked the little arrangement that he did with it. Simple, but you def knew what it was. As for Courtney, I did like where she was going with it, just not well done, but I didnt hate it. Kind of cool considering the history and the he said she saids all these years. Good , bad or indifferent, I giver her some props....
I agree. I liked the guitar arrangement, it's just a shame her voice is shot these days. If she'd tried this around Live Through This/Celebrity Skin time when her voice was stronger it may have sounded ok.

I think it would be interesting to hear Ed and Mike play Jeremy with this kind of arrangement (maybe at the Bridge School? HINT!) Ed's obviously got a far better voice and we know they can at least keep time with each other!

Pretty interesting cover. Miko is a good guitarist. I do however hope to see a full Hole reunion one day that would be cool, but not likely. They have been playing a bunch of covers on this tour and it's kind of cool to see their take on them. I honestly did not expect Courtney to cover a Pearl jam song. I give her kudos.

I thought the hole show I saw last month was very good.

    You're right as usual. :D

Did you like that cover Kat? :P

Putting me on the spot, ay? :)

I can honestly say that I love the song, Jeremy, and think it is Pearl Jam's iconic piece. I like it when others cover their songs because I see it as a sign of respect. I admire that. I do not like every version of covered PJ songs I've heard...and, um, that's about it. :D

I think I like what was said before and after the song but I have a hard time making it out.

Artfully played, Kat. Well done. ;)

As for me... I thought it was a little  and somewhat  and  leaving me with an overall impression of :wtf:

Oddly enough, I wore the same outfit to work at the hospital today, but mine is taupe, not black.

Personally I don't like the "feel sorry for me/look at me/it's not me" persona that CL has portrayed over the years. I think Eddie and Kurt, without CL's influence, could've had a friendship. It was good press for CL to hate Pearl Jam years ago, and since Pearl Jam has been the only constant relevant Seattle band to survive the '90's, band member deaths and breakups/reunions, it feels like it's good press for her now to "embarrassingly" admit that she and Kurt listened to and liked Jeremy.

Whatever. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and thank her for demonstrating that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. It wasn't my cup of tea though - Staind's version of Black was head & shoulders above her cover, and Seether's acoustic cover of Immortality blows her cover out of the water.

Wow for once in my life I am giving props to Courtney Love.

I hate her with every fiber of my being, but to cover this song takes a lot of balls on her part, its not good but the sentiment behind it is fucking fantastic.

  • I personally don't believe a word that comes out of her mouth, so for her to say that Kurt liked Jeremy is something you have to take with a grain of salt. She says loads of BS all the time just for a reaction.

Very interesting cover choice, but obviously not well rehearsed (at least I HOPE it wasn't).

Slow day? I listened to this again today - I liked it yesterday, so it's not that I am brave ;) , and I still don't mind it. I like Jeremy, I think CL has a nice voice, I liked the rhythm, and I liked non-yelling parts. Yelling, or 'singing', parts were horrible, but it is kind of to be expected. Now I want to hear Christopher Walken talk his way through this one, keeping the same arangement.
I didn't see oh Eddie part the first time, run Ed.

From talking to both Eric and Melissa they both sounded willing to do a proper Hole reunion. They just don't want to play songs they didn't take part in recording/writing. I don't think it'll happen because Courtney is crazy.

  • i like how she says that if people don't sing along she's walking off the stage

this version really makes me appreciate ed a whole lot more cause IMO it's a very difficult tune to do better than the original version. this cover is lacking real emotion which is what this song is really about.

Wanted to turn it off, I couldn't, it was a train wreck...she gots some balls for trying...

and yes, what the fuck was she wearing?
  • Wow. That was incredibly bad.

I'm not a Courtney hater. I feel bad for her. It's easy to mock her ('cuz she's cray-zay) but she was a young widow and mommy. I wouldn't want to walk a day in her shoes at all.

Wow, I was thinking about seeing Hole at Bumbershoot - but I don't know anymore...she was waaaaay drunk and her voice was completely shot. The guitar was interesting; but I turned it off with a minute to go - just couldn't listen to Courtney anymore. I don't think I will waste my time and money watching that when I could be at one of many other stages.

That cover aside, (and I really think it was attempted to be done for shits and giggles), Hole's show is very good. Yeah, they do a bunch of covers, but it was nice to finally hear Courtney play some of those Hole songs I never thought I'd get to hear live. Her stage banter is pretty funny even though she has that "in your face" persona.

I have a friend who lived in Seattle and told me Bumbershoot is just awesome. Enjoy the day no matter what you end up seeing band wise.

Give Hole a chance though, I'd say if you want to check them out, watch a few songs, and if it's not your cup of tea, then that's cool too. Have fun whatever you do. Wish I was going to Bumbershoot. sounds like an incredible event.
