The English Beat salute PJ

I don't know if this has been brought up before on these boards or not, but I just got back from seeing The English Beat open up for Squeeze at the Gibson Amphitheatre (where I saw PJ blow the roof off of last October). During the end sequence of Save It For Later, Dave Wakeling snuck the chorus from Betterman in the coda of the song. It was a great moment, and judging from the screams of a few people (myself included), there were a few of us who caught the tribute. They were really good, by the way. Definitely catch them if you can. The whole place was up and dancing during most of the show, and they were the openers.

I didn't know they still toured. That's awesome!
  • That is sweet! I love the english beat! I will have to see if I can track that down.

Now maybe pj pay back the compliment with a little twist and crawl, or mirror in the bathroom. Or click click, that would be sick.

They're literally the house band for a bar here in Toronto (Horseshoe Tavern) they play there like ever 3rd week it feels like.

I agree though, you should check them out. It's a good show.

Agree would be great. Saw Chris Difford solo a few years back and he was good. Think I might have seen Glen Tilbrook too.

I know it's an english beat song but I'll bet Ed was influenced by the pete townshend cover from one of his great live solo albums. I see it as a PT/Who homage, not an english beat homage. Ed sings it a lot more like PT does.

I love the English Beat, I have seen them 8 or 9 times in the last 5 years or so. Going to see them again in NYC on August 21st. They put on a great show. The singer Dave Wakeling is a super nice guy. They are constantly touring.
