I completely agree. I'm a 40 something and the last few years, I find about 95% of the fans, especially the young males are rude and look down their noses at us like they discovered the band or something and we don't belong at the concert.
I met some awesome 20 something young men and lady fans at my last 2 concerts, exceptionally nice kids. I'm an old lady mom to them, well I am to everyone :roll: but I did run into a terribly rude very tall young man in the elevator after the Hartford show. I was without JB, he was pretty cocky, I think I said something about his mother at the end of the conversation that she would not be proud of the ass he was being, maybe something about soap and his mouth too
Good for you. I never have the guts to call them out, I'm afraid they'll hurt me. I go to concerts all the time with my son (21) and my friends and they always tell me what a great young man he is and I truly believe he is like that away from me too. It's all in how you're raised. They probably treat their own parents that way.

This fella was pretty drunk, no excuse though, biggest factor showing off to friends, I think. But true if you respect your children and treat them tender but firm they learn to do the same with others. You are a rock Mom, I bet he is as proud of you as you of him. Thats beautiful to share these great memories, he'll have that forever.

Being a 50 something, I agree with Pandora. I've met a lot of people of different ages through pearl jam and a good number of 20 somethings. They are all lovely people who I wouldn't mind having as daughter or son. And I guess I'm an old lady mom to them too... especially when they stay at my place and I insist on feeding them!
I don't think I've been disappointed meeting other PJ fans. Though the music is a common factor for all here, we are all very different people. I certainly have not been disappointed meeting in person those I have 'spoken' to on this forum (and maybe built an online 'relationship').

I have to add though, the 20 something Dave Matthews are the complete opposite and love having the old folks around. Just one big happy family. After a Dave show a few years ago, I pulled out all of the leftover tailgate food and within a few hours, I was "Dave Mom". They wanted me to call their moms and tell them they were ok to drive. It was a blast.

My son has already told me next time PJ is in town he wants to go, EV for sure, he is more of an unplugged guy, Into The Wild being his all time favorite movie.He made me a DVD of mixed show of live PJ, heavy on the Halloween show. He thought them more awesome than he ever knew It was nice to see him so interested.

I think my next door neighbor's 20-something son is horrified that (me,) the 40-something female neighbor, is constantly blasting PJ.
I always like to remind them that Eddie is way, way closer to my age than theirs.

I believe Ed totally gets a real kick out of the shows...the better and more involved the audience....the more he likes it...its obvious...and even brings him to tears...as we all know....at times. (such a beautiful soul)

My son has gone to a couple of Camden shows with me...and Newark and MSG I this past May...he couldn't go with me to MSG 2 which he would have adored. He also brought his wife to MSG I and she's never ever let up on me (before this show that is) for LOVING PJ and Ed soooo much. Now ... well you can guess. She want's more. She's not to the level we're at yet and that'll probably take a while, but we're working on her.
AND I have to add that I find most of the younger fans are very cool and generous to me...course I rock them outta their seats if they aren't! OH.... but funny story ...this May my kids got me a black pin that read "Grandma Rocks!" and I wore it to the shows (after posting a photo of it on fb of course). I had burly 20-something guys coming up to me from all over the place saying "YOU ROCK" and other such wonderful comments, and giving me bear hugs...one kid literally hugged me so hard that he picked me right up off of my feet...and..hahahaaa...that's not an easy feat these days. I've had lots of young (almost always males) come up to me at the pre-paraties wanting to talk about how many shows have I been to, etc. I guess they see you're a little older, want to hear some war stories. so i have to say that the young men i've met at pre-parties and shows were for the most part fantastic. now, i do have to admit that some of the young ladies...well, they aren't all so lady like. older girls/women....great..the young girls. not so much...hmmmm....Wonder what that's all about?
Genearlly....its all good though.

People are people. There are assholes at PJ shows and probably some swell folks at Nickelback shows.
I have found the quality improves as you get closer to the stage though.....
eh... i think music really only forms character and bonds at a young age... at this point in PJ's career they have fans of all ages, races, parties, and backgrounds... its impossible to expect all those diverse people to agree on everything... especially when you throw in the fact that PJ isn't always consistent in their messages... its like scripture... you'll have people quoting PJ circa '92 fighting against people quoting present day PJ... we all make assumption about what is right for PJ and their fans... about what is a good setlist/song/poster and a bad setlist/song/poster, etc.
all things considered, I think this place is pretty pleasant... we tend to self-enforce pretty well... I don't see very many PJ fans outside of here and concerts
its always a bummer when people don't live up to your expectations though... even if they are unreasonable
Every fan I actually met has been nice. The two guys I met at Ed's solo gig were very kind to me. Some of the people here (that I never met) are very generous people.
To the OP, I'm sorry you had a bad experience, most fans are pretty cool.
I met this fan at the Hartford show who was sitting next to me and he was all pumped up during the show and he was jumping up and down the entire show. He had a good time. He was probably around my age and it was his first show.
I was disappointed I didn't get to meet a few people at the Hartford pre-party (Fenway, youngster, Dissident man, Baba). That's what I was disappointed about.
