I remember first hearing it appear as the "Free Jazz" improv in 2003.

Improvisation

From 10/1/09 L.A.:
"Jazz Odyssey" was played while the gear was broken down from Ben Harper's appearance. Ed said they had developed it a while ago but it never made it on an album. It was on the setlist as "Jazz Odyssey," so I don't know that it was really an improv. Ed did not play on it, and made a point of noting that.

They need to update the list with times played for Jazz Odyssey as it was played at the o2 in London!
