I know this has been done before but who cares....
Lastnight my GF got tix to see DMB at Citi Field in NY WHAT A LETDOWN.
Lets set the stage..........Brand new CITI FILED home of the mets....(Pretty funny everyone was channting "let go yankees") anyway
Citi Field 40-50,000 fans DMB one of the greatest band.....this place is gonna rock.........then
BLAH 2 hours of nothingness. Hey, I like the DMB just like the next person.....I know more then the hits but is was boring has hell. A soldout stadium it only came alive for 2-3 songs it was horrible. Tons of people just talking the enitre show...almost like they didn't care. I was letdown I thought this place was gonna rock I was excited. Yea there were a few fans dancing singing.....but not in mass like PJ. I'll say it again we are friggin spoiled as PJ fans we complain about them sometimes.....but we are truly in the ELITE CLUB it comes to pj.
On a side note I did see a PJ SHIRT AND HAT on different people I even took pics of them.
Anyway....

I agree. We are spoiled as PJ fans. I've never seen DMB but have seen enough shows over the years and the only one that even comes close to being as good is Bruce Springsteen. It's nice to be nice to the nice.0
-
When I was in college everyone loved dmb... I didn't understand the fascination with dmb. Still don't...0
-
They did close with All Along the watchtower which I found was pretty cool....
Daily new head line " Dave mattews in new york commercial success but letdown otherwise"
Even newsday didn't fair to well.

yeah i went to dmb night 1 at citi field. i'm not a dave fan, but a friend had an extra ticket so i went along. I had floor seats and was surprised at how many people were barely paying attention. to say the crowd was lame would be an insult to lame people everywhere.Jam out with your clam out.0

I'm a local stage hand and when they were in Cincinnati this year, it rained the whole show (only a handfull left). Might I mention that it was an amphitheater so the lawn was crazy, they played for three straight hours like they always do then the drummer throws out about fifty drum sticks afterwards, which is cool. I liked the band, I don't know if I have negative feelings for them because I've worked the show every year or I just want them to get off stage. So I can do my job & go home.
But as I could see siting on the dock, on the stage. Everyone was having a good time!
(Didn't get a guitar pick either!)
But the bottom line is they don't have shit on our boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!Paul D.0 -
To me, he's a ripoff of the Doobie Brothers and Bruce Springsteen.Shows: 6.27.08 Hartford, CT/5.15.10 Hartford, CT/6.18.2011 Hartford, CT (EV Solo)/10.19.13 Brooklyn/10.25.13 Hartford

first off you cannot compare the 2 bands. they are both different and unique in their own ways. now as for the citi field shows, i have to say the first night was a subpar night on paper but unless you were their you can't really say anything about the energy and the crowd. now n2 was a whole different machine. show overall was a 7/10! the setlist started off with a bang had a few duds throughout the rest of the set which aren't actually bad in terms of the energy the band gets from the crowd and the fun they have playing the songs. now I was not there but I know a lot of people that were there. i don't know where you and your gf were sitting but from what I was told, the crowd was unreal and just rocking and the band was having an amazing time on stage.videos that have been posted on youtube have confirmed that. the band will play what they want. i have seen dmb 41 times and have only been letdown a few times. again you cannot compare pj to dmb because they are different0

I lived in Richmond, VA from 1988 - 1995, before DMB was THE BIG DEAL that they've become.
It seemed like they opened for every group that came thru town and we would intentionally go to shows an hour late to miss their performance, because we had seen their show SO MANY TIMES.
In 1993, I got to shoot (I'm a professional videographer) a Valentine's Day show DMB did with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra for RCA Records.
It was an AMAZING performance and I became a DMB fan after this show.
In 1995, we moved to Seattle, so I guess you can see what's coming now... WE saw Pearl Jam for the first time at Key Arena in 1996 and I was blown away by their performance. I was also able to attend both of the benefit shows at Seattle's Memorial Stadium in '98.
I still liked DMB and even went to 2 of their shows at The Gorge.
If you've ever been to The Gorge, you know that it's one of (if not THE) MOST BEAUTIFUL venues in the US. One of my biggest regrets is that we left Seattle in 2000 and I NEVER got to see Pearl Jam at The Gorge!
This last DMB show at The Gorge is still THE WORST show I've ever been to.
It wasn't the band that made it bad, It was the AUDIENCE!
It felt like we were at a HUGE FRAT / SORORITY party. The Frat Guys wouldn't stop drinking & the Sorority Girls wouldn't SHUT UP!!!
I've NEVER seen so many people FALLING DOWN DRUNK in one place in my life & I've been to the Kentucky Derby & Indy 500, 2 of the biggest PARTY Events in the US.
No one was even paying attention to the band playing or the natural beauty of the venue.
This experience really turned us off to going to DMB Shows.
We still enjoy their music, just can't stand the fan base that go to their shows.
BTW...I've NEVER seen people behave BETTER than a Pearl Jam Audience!!!
PJ HAS THE BEST FANS IN THE WORLD!!! :ugeek:Post edited by derbydave on'96: Seattle: Key Arena

i was on the field surrounded by a bunch of people who looked exactly the same. pink polo shirts and khaki shorts. reminded me of Andy Bernard from the Office.
dont get me wrong, there were plenty of people singing along and having a great time. just not on a par with what i've experienced at PJ shows.Jam out with your clam out.0 -
not everyone goes to the concerts for the music. people go just because it is the place to be whether it is dmb, pj or anyone else. yes it is these same ppl that are the ones that ppl are talking about in here. their is nothing you can do about it.0

We were in section 310 and it was dead a lot of empty seats to.....yea those youtube vids were from the packed floor but when it comes to loudness PJ PHILLY AND MSG were 20-30,000 people to 40,000,,,, 50,000 lastnight and pj blew them out of the water. Some girl behind me had her head between her legs 3/4 of the show. EMS came over and told the boyfriend she needs to sober up or they were taking her.....funny shit. I am just saying I heard DMB was good live but I expected more....sorry just my opinion. I wanted to rock out lastnight instead I was sitting watching the rescue helicopter fly around behind the stadium.

so you got stuck in an spot that had shitty ppl who were probably there just to get drunk. it happens. it can happen at a pj concert also. also their is a difference when you have ga ticketing and when you get put in seating where everyone around you is a 10c member0 -

again you cannot compare a baseball stadium show to an indoor venue or an amphitheatre.0 -

Why else would you go to a concert if it wasn't for the music? Just like those stupid fucking jimmy buffett followers who go for the 6hr party in the parking lot first. Now you want to talk about a horrible concert with people who look like Andy Bernard - go to a Buffett show. FREAKS!
Pearl Jam - hands down - one of the best acts to see live anywhere, anytime. I've been dissappointed with more than a few DMB shows, but NEVER a Pearl Jam show."The waiting drove me mad"0 -
Hardly comparable.
I've seen plenty of DMB shows that have been better than PJ and plenty of PJ shows that have been better than DMB. If I could only choose one band, I'd chose PJ, but you really can't compare the two. They're totally different bands...lol.I Know All The Rules But The Rules Do Not Know Me.0 -
Well, they are not that comparable since DMB is a touring band while Pearl Jam is a play at their convenience band. DMB actually tours so of course they will have more dud shows than Pearl Jam. It is easy for Pearl Jam to keep the energy up when they "tour" for three weeks and then need a year break to get over "road life".
Sorry, I live in Indiana and could have seen DMB at my hometown like 15 times compared to two Pearl Jam opportunities.0 -
A little bitter are we? if you wanted to see PJ that badly, you would have taken a road trip or 2, like the rest of us, to see them. PJ are way more powerful live than DMB. Plus they know how to grab an audience by changing up the setlist according to the feel of the crowd. chagbootlegger10 wrote:Well, they are not that comparable since DMB is a touring band while Pearl Jam is a play at their convenience band. Say what you want about them, while yes I agree PJ is a better live band, I think DMB treats their fans better. When they tour, they play everywhere, not just hot spots, Amazing musicians as well, and Dave is a very unique guitarist. Pearl Jam blows them away live, no question, and has a much better fanbase, but I just wish they would actually do a full tour when an album comes out.9/4/98, 8/4/00, 12/8/02, 12/9/02, 4/15/03, 4/16/03, 4/19/03, 4/25/03, 4/26/03, 4/28/03, 4/29/03, 4/30/03, 7/8/03, 7/9/03, 9/28/04, 9/29/04, 10/6/04, 9/1/05, 9/2/05, 5/16/06, 5/17/06, 5/27/06, 5/28/06, 5/30/06, 6/1/06, 6/3/06, 8/5/07, 6/11/08, 6/12/08, 6/14/08, 6/16/08, 6/24/08, 6/25/080
