The point of making "unplugged" versions of songs is to make stripped back, more intimate versions of your songs not to make them rock out harder then the original ... but it seems no one told Pearl Jam that

whats really ironic about that Unplugged was the MTv people hated it ... they never wanted to air it again .. it went down as the worst one in history .... but to us it was the greatest moment of our lives and we fought and fought to getit . 15+ years later we did....(KINDA)have you seen the colors of my fathers eyes0

Well it wasn't the best (that honor goes to AiC) it cannot be the worst. Those are pearl jam songs dammit.
That is the best performance of Porch and one of the best performances of Black. I will admit that State of Love, Alive, Even Flow, Jeremy do not really differ from the originals to make the unplugged versions something special and those arrangements sound better in electric, perhaps that is where the criticism comes from ... but still not the worst, in fact the only one I listen to more is AiC (which got reissued on vinyl this year wohooooo).CJMST3K wrote:I miss the way the band plays this stuff.
You miss Dave A. (that statement will attract some anger but I never said Dave was the best only his drumming was key to this era of Pearl Jam performances and if you like this era of PJ you like Dave)Mike McCready makes the energizer bunny look tired.0 -

I didn't watch then, I am a late fan, but how can you not love them?
Ditto to everything said here. Eddie singing his little heart out, Dave being joy to watch, and everyone else.

What do you mean it went down as the "worst one in history"? In terms of ratings? Obviously, I don't agree with that, but wanted to know how you/they determined that.0 -

Ah .. the day's watching Pearl Jam's MTV Unplugged on Much Music. Their set was also played on YTV a lot every Saturday nights.
My first CD copy was on the unofficial bootleg CD Black And White.

Kinda hoped on the '08 release of the DVD they included more footage behind the scenes rehearsing & behind the scenes. Oh well!0 -
I do like it purely because it's just a Pearl Jam acoustic show, but it could have been anywhere / anything, not MTV Unplugged... it's a pretty run-of-the-mill Pearl Jam acoustic gig. I personally think they missed a massive oppurtunity to do something really special at such an early stage in their career. It's cool, but it's absolutely nowhere near the greatness of Nirvana's Unplugged session.0

I had that bootleg in the early 90s too. I loved on the back where it says "full thrown magic." I always thought that was a great way to describe a Pearl Jam live performance
