I do like it purely because it's just a Pearl Jam acoustic show, but it could have been anywhere / anything, not MTV Unplugged... it's a pretty run-of-the-mill Pearl Jam acoustic gig. I personally think they missed a massive oppurtunity to do something really special at such an early stage in their career. It's cool, but it's absolutely nowhere near the greatness of Nirvana's Unplugged session.

They were flown in, I think from Switzerland, had to scramble for the instruments, and played without much notice. Nirvana had months for preparations.
I love watching this. My friends, who are not much into Pearl Jam, love this, it is their favorite performance.
    It is what it is.
Did you think then that they missed opportunity, or do you think that now?

whats really ironic about that Unplugged was the MTv people hated it ... they never wanted to air it again .. it went down as the worst one in history .... but to us it was the greatest moment of our lives and we fought and fought to getit . 15+ years later we did....(KINDA)

What do you mean it went down as the "worst one in history"? In terms of ratings? Obviously, I don't agree with that, but wanted to know how you/they determined that.

i read it in Rolling Stone mag a few years ago ...the big wigs at MTV got pissed during and after the taping .. they never wanted to air it again..(and they didnt for a long time) the whole idea behind the show was to "strip" a band down and let them play acoustic and tell stories about the songs ...also do their songs in a sort of MELLOW state of mind like AIC did .... not get up on a chair and write PROCHOICE on your arm during 8 min jam of porch ... i also remember reading that if he dropped the "F BOMB" during porch they where going to stop the show completely and never air it . hence the "growling" noise . they didnt want to BLEEP him cause that defeated the idea of the show ..

this was also confirmed by a close friend of mine who worked for SONY/EPIC back in the day

i also remember it coming up again when they put out the BEST OF UNPLUGGED cd a few years ago

one more tidbit. they where all hung over and jet lagged from the EURO tour ... the SWISS show in 92 was their " warm up show" hence the exact same setlist

all this was written in a rolling stone mag a few years ago... ill go threw them and send you the link to the mag its in
have you seen the colors of my fathers eyes

From the audio I have of the show, I know Ed was telling the audience they couldn't swear or anything and then he says, "I think you should be able to have a fucking abortion!"
    Shows: 6.27.08 Hartford, CT/5.15.10 Hartford, CT/6.18.2011 Hartford, CT (EV Solo)/10.19.13 Brooklyn/10.25.13 Hartford

Definitely. Now if the show was airing live, he would've been Jim Morrison 25 years later.

This is one of my favorite performances of "Porch" -- Ed "crowd surfing" on his stool, Jeff standing on the drums and then nearly falling off of his stool -- awesome. :D And while the suits at MTV might not have liked this, maybe they missed the point. I see an acoustic set not as a storytelling opportunity but as a chance to get to the essence of each song. I think this performance does that beautifully.
