Is it just me or is that a weird way to end the show, it almost looks like they were planning a couple more songs... other than that looks like a good show
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

Berlin is fucking awesome. Any show with Long Road, In Hiding, Immortality and Come Back gets my vote, every time.

  • Firstly I am going to make one suggestion. Why doesnt the band open with Alive to engage the audience right from the start. The Spanish crowd visibly embraced this song more than the others, and when you have the most expansive list of songs you can always throw Betterman in during the first encore. Just a thought but one I feel will only enhance the concerts where English isn´t the chosen language.

This was my 4th show on this European leg, Dublin, London, and Berlin previously and I must say that this show was right up there. Dublin had the great venue and the mad Irish crowd, however Stone lived up to his name as he barely moved. The band looked like a team of digruntled employees who simply showed up for work, got the job done and left. Dublin was certainly a very heavy set but there was much sincerity as a sledgehammer. London had a better list and the band appeared to back in form, however the ground was flat and difficult to see for many of the vertically challenged. Still I was pleased to see the band in a vibrant mood and Stone rocking out. As per my London fanview the event was spoilt by those who felt it necessary to throw bottles.
Berlin we got lost trying to find the 10C ticket area, showed up well over 5.30pm, but we managed to get close to the stage and like a rip at the beach we started on Mikes side then drifted towards Eddie and Jeff. It was a great venue and one heck of a show, although we had to retreat after the first encore. The crowd were fantastic, and there were some who went to great lengths to protect my fiance from some of the rukus. The fact we loved Berlin added to this experience.

Now leading into this show and reading rave reviews of Venice we didn´t know what to expect. Forget what you read on the WWW, the venue is not a leisurely 15 minute walk from the town centre. From where we were staying it was well over an hour and change. The venue once you climbed the mountain was fantastic and as soon as we walked in you could easily see the stage. The ground sloped meaning that you could easily go get some food and merchandise and grab a comfortable position to stand.

The show initially was spoilt by one gentleman who had a 36hr head start on the drinking and he decided to sleep 80-100m from the stage. Numerous people kicked him and some dives over him would have earnt penalties in South Africa. My fiance fearing a tragic injury went to the paramedics and got them over. The lady spoke to him and then in her best english replied that, "He has only had too much too drink and wants to sleep, so he is ok". It took one major fall from a poor guy to get this person out of the area.

My prediction of Animal to open again was wrong again but the band launched into it straight away with Do The Evolution. The sound was great and in fact I noticed that Alice In Chains sounded superb. I will go home to Perth with four Corduroy jackets, 4 GTFs, 4 Alives, 1 Dissident one of my favourite PJ riff/songs (my two yr old son who came on this trip), and luckily one Rearviewmirror (where idiots may be actually closer than they appear), 4 pensioners (Elderley Woman behind....), 4 Fixers, and 4 Unthoughts Known and we all could Just Breathe for the 4th time as well. The request sign for State Of Love and Trust when unnoticed but we got that once. My other favourites and songs I hoped for were, I Got ID and Breath but to no avail. They might have to wait for the next international tour I decide to embark on.

One of the funniest moments was when Eddie asked the crowd to move three steps back but he made this request in English. I had my eyes set on the crowd, and when he counted down ( in Spanish) the crowd didn´t budge. Myabe he should have this request translated, and perhaps in Portuguese tonight. Another highlight was Given To Fly felt a little slowed down from previous concerts. I have always felt that they play this far too quickly and it detracts from a briliant rolling song. Dissident´s main riff is oh so simple to play but really effective and along with Daughter gives PJ a country kicker.

I saw the request sign from Daniel flash on the screen and immediately thought that this isn´t a Green Day concert where any 12yr old can be lucky enough to get on stage and sing Longview. Well they did it and Daniel got his moment of a lifetime. Mine was having Slash sign over two Les Pauls to me and my two year old son, however but am happy to let these guys be the true rock stars they are and not go out of my way for a meeting. His version of Daughter was pretty good and it was wonderful to see the band embrace this moment. (Stone especially). Black was led into by thoughts on a women and how people loved her for 10 years, and how the you need to love of many to stay focussed. It was good banter and even though he told Daniel initially it was Gatorade in that bottle, I wonder if a little tipple brings out the best in Eddie when it comes to banter with the crowd. We all can put our own greatest hits lists on our Ipod, but a PJ concert should be a total experience and this includes embracing those from another culture.

I must say I enjoyed hearing the banter between Eddie and Stone over the year model of his Les Paul TV, which I think was a 1956 version that he got for this birthday. I am always worried that one day Mike might drop his prized 59 Strat when playing a solo behind his back but who knows this might only increase its value.

The band were in fine form, Stone rocked the house, Eddie´s voice seemed to push through the exhaustion barrier, the Spanish crowd hardly understood a word he said but nevetheless for the fellow Aussies, Poms, and our friends in the fridge in the crowd the English banter was most welcome. In fact you noticed the language barrier when the lead singer of Alice in Chains yelled, "I hope you kick the Netherlands ass" and got little response.

I must say that the venue is superb and this is one event well worth attending. When PJ finished we were marshalled into bus lines for the trip back into town. We managed to wing it back from there, but even though the event may not have the exotic appeal of Venice or Berlin, it was worth every cent getting here.

Brilliant show PJ and a great way for me to end this tour! Beautiful country and people and we hope you kick the Netherlands backside on Sunday night!!!

I won a "Fixer" tshirt at the Volcom stand, it was pretty cool  . I had to play with a cardboard guitar to do so  .

I was there around third row of people on Mikes side. The only bad thing was that I was right in front of the bass speakers, and they were LOUD! the show was great of course. I got a pic of the set list after the show (I´ll post it when I get home). The tag for daughter was supposed to be Real me. State and love and trust was supposed to be between daughter and alive but got crossed out. Probably because daughter took a lot of time with the guy they brought on stage.

On a side note, in the afternoon before the show I went to the guggenheim museum and got a pic with Mr. Mike McReady!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! New profile pic to be posted when I get home!

Berlin we got lost trying to find the 10C ticket area

I think you weren't the only one. Last year I experienced the same. I searched an area of about 1 km2. There happened to be just one A4 paper hanging indicating the direction to go....
In fact you noticed the language barrier when the lead singer of Alice in Chains yelled, "I hope you kick the Netherlands ass" and got little response.

As LOV2ROK2PJ writes, you and William DuVall apparently don't have a clue about the Basque country. A large part of the inhabitants doesn't identify themselves with Spain....

Sorry about All the multiple posts, but I am sure you understand my excitement, this being my first ever PJ show :D . So here is my in depth review:

I started the show directly across the bootleg mic on Mikes side. I was really up front (an arms length from the front row railings) and the sound got a bit ruined for me because I was pretty much on top of the bass speakers (thank god for the bootlegs!!!!!!). I was sure they would open with courdoroy but do the evolution was a great opener (and I got courdoroy second). The crowd was pretty rowdy for the first 3 - 4 songs and I got pretty smushed. I kept waiting for Ed to tell the crowd to calm down and take a few steps back. He eventually did and the crowd calmed down a little bit.

The best part of the show IMO was the '56 guitar bit. I am sure that there is already a video on youtube, but it went something like this:
Ed: Hey mike, what kind of guitar is that? A '59? He got that for his birthday (to the crowd)
    Mike: It's a '56.
Ed: OOOOOHHHHH, a '56!!!! Hey Mike, when we get back to the hotel tonight can I take your '56 to my room and masturbate to it? Something about the curves does it for me....

I found my self crying for Unthought Known. This song never really touched me emotionally before, but the tears just kept going for the whole song. On the intro Ed gave to Black, I thought he was going to sing Just breathe so the tears came back... When he actually sang Just Breathe I cried for the entire thing.

For the whole rendition of Daughter, one thing kept going through my mind: "That lucky S.O.B.!!!!!" The whole "I don't drink..... It's Gatorade" dialouge was hysterical.

The crowd was not really familiar with the Backspacer songs (besides Just Breathe), but went nuts for the ten/Vs songs.

I had the luck to meet another Israeli fan my age who has also been a fan since ten and came to see them for the first time. We were both in awe after the show.
Still can't believe I met Mike Mccready at the Guggenheim and got a pic with him!!!!!
