i just find is so funny when i notice an artiest "used" the "same" lines of a previous poster ..
side note : about a month ago i was checking out http://www.beyondthepale.com.au/home/ and came across the Queens of stone age prints they got ... and with in seconds i noticed they all looked like Justin Hamptons (who does alot for QOTSA) a few days later i was talking to Justin via facebook and i brought it up to him ..He laughed and said those guys do it all them time .they even called him up for some ideas on a Queens print and used everything he said ..he also said that they dont draw anything original . its either a reprint or a total "copy" of something that was already done before .. He even pointed out the Pearl Jam posters they did back in 06 (?). and gave me links to a some crazy random no name band that had the same thing..
but BK would have done it alot better, in the drawing and the coloring. He would have had more detail and "omph!" in it.
better? or more gaudy?
the cartoonish quality of the poster is the only thing that says they're not taking this stupid design too seriously... something that BK can definitely learn from
that being said, i hope ames sticks to the more upbeat designs that i like

They should take their shit seriously, even if it's a "cartoon" or "upbeat".
on the contrary... the biggest problem with PJ historically is that they take themselves too seriously - atleast up until backspacer... what does the band mean to the fans though? its about the powerful uplifting music and the fun we have at the shows... ames captures some of that fun while BK is more depressing - skull and daggers... a more graphic ed hardy
it is a "stupid design"... no arguing that... but atleast ames seems aware of it... and I'd rather be in on the joke than part of it

I don't know if I would call it stupid or a joke, but it seems to be a clear homage and tribute to the late Frank Frazetta. They may have been big fans of his. Brad has done the same with his prints before as well- look at his Camden prints from 2008. Obviusly they did not go into the incredible detail that a Frazetta painting or illustration would have, but it seems pretty clear. Try googling him and "death dealer".
...got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...

I've seen frazetta's work before... as beautifully illustrated as it is I just can't take that fantasy shit seriously... and as I've already said - homage or not - the style of ames tells me its more fun to them than anything

Right on! Let's see some sample work! I have two posters in mind myself that I want to do.
DO THE EVOLUTION - a 20th Anniversary Tribute Celebration
of PEARL JAM - WORLD CAFE LIVE PHILLY JUNE 19th 7pm
They should take their shit seriously, even if it's a "cartoon" or "upbeat".
I'm on board. Time for some new blood. I've got some ideas rattling around. Let's make this happen!
