With better days, and of the earth. Do you think there is a chance of a new album or ep on its way?
Mike said a new ep was going to happen. And with the movie and the reissues, i think its going to be a big year for PJ

Matt will be touring with SG.

Better Days is on the Eat Love Pray movie soundtrack so that won't be on a new album.

Hopefully Of the Earth will be on a new album but as stated above...it probably wouldn't come out until next year.

    yay....another round of wild speculations!
You can spend your time alone, re-digesting past regrets,
Or you can come to terms and realize
You're the only one who can't forgive yourself
  • Yep, all speculations but fun to chat about just the same. I speculate that we will get something fresh like maybe that EP Mike spoke about in between the down time of the band.

either that, or it's a evil plot to get us to buy more boots. They "release" a song every concert or so, that way we have to buy the whole Europe set to get an EP or so's worth of new material.

May '11 doesn't sound too bad, a little early though I think.

If they were to play a different new song tonight this place would go ape shi*t.

    That'd be fun

Mike said that they had songs and that an EP was likely. He didn't say it was going to happen. Anyway, we'd all love more information on this.

If they already have songs recorded that didn't make it to the albums I think we could see it happen sooner rather than later. Maybe even towards the end of this year? One can hope right ? ;)

thats just it right? this could easily happen.

when was the last time that 2 new songs got released like 6 months after a new album
  • They could easily buy a lot of time between now and the next true album by releasing the rest of the reissues and passing off the non album songs from Avocado, Backspacer and maybe even from Riot Act as a "new" album. Although if they are playing the songs now, I'd say something will come out sooner than later!
Minneapolis 98, Chicago 00, San Fransisco 00, Fargo 03, Thunder Bay 05, St Paul 06 (night 2), Chicago 08 (EV) both nights

    Don't it make you smile?

which do you think will come first, an announcement on the EP (or whatever) or Europe boots? 2007, anyone.

My thoughts exactly. I see these songs as fodder and b-sides for upcoming re-issue(s). The EP is very possible and could be in any array of release to be singular, to promote or in conjunction for all we know if we truly want to speculate.

I hope they're road-testing new songs as they've done in the past, I don't see why else they'd play unreleased songs now, have they really played unreleased songs in the past for the hell of it?

they did a couple in 2005 for the self-titled album. Comatose and Gone. Outside that I think they have not done so since the 1994 period. Could be wrong though.

People lets not act like we dont know how this band operates by now. Better Days was for a sound track, it has nothing to do with anything new, in fact we dont even know if this is a newly written song. We also know that before they kick off tour legs they rehearse, which is why certain, random songs appear in setlist, ie: education. Of the earth was probably brought up in rehearsals, they liked the feel, so they're playing it.
A group of recorded songs may sound like an easy ep, but there is still a lot of work to be done if they plan to actually release it. Lost dogs, for example was not thrown together over night. Backspacer is still pushing new singles, and they are still on tour promoting backspacer, so anything else in the near future is not likely. They'll probably finish this tour, take significant time off, get together with what they've individually been working on and then make another album. Dont want to be debbie downer, but ive learned this band's ways after all these years. I hope we do get an ep, but i wont get my hopes up

To each there own, however, this band has broken it's own mold on occasions as well. So if people want to speculate and get excited then there is nothing wrong with that. I still think we will see a re-issue i the near future. :D

they used to do this quite a bit actually throughout the 90s. 95 tour featured lukin, red mosquito, brain of j, etc. they played a bunch of yield stuff months before that came out. lots of vs. and vitalogy were played well before they were released as well. since then its been few and far between, which is why its very cool to have this new jam!

Yeah an old boot I had called "Abandoned" from I believe the '95 tour had (what was then called) Brain of JFK (as well as the first version of I Got Shit I ever heard). I was shocked to see it years later on Yield, considering the band's history of leaving excellent songs off of studio albums and all.

Rumor has it the rereleases were canceled but that doesn't rule out an EP or Lost Dogs II

the way people claim to know the "ways" of the band cracks me up.

i'll be happy with an EP, with a new album, or even just hearing a few new things live on youtube. if they want to take a hiatus, hey, they deserve it. after philly i thought all the "wild speculation" about a 2010 tour was a load of crap, but lo and behold we got it after all. i feel incredibly blessed with the opportunities i've had to see the band recently, so while a new album would be rad, i'm not going to be disappointed in the least if it doesn't come to fruition for at least another year or so.

    cheers.
keep on rockin' in the free world.
  • i would love to see that ep that mike was talking about, but only time will tell, but i did find this article on of the earth though i dont know how much validity it holds.
