Maybe it's because I'm drinking..

And you all can hate on me all you want, call it illegal or whatever, but I must say that I do love drinking AND listening to Pearl jam, and tonight I noticed something..

Rearview mirror is a song FULL of hope. Yes there is rage, anger, and even resentment, but the ending message is full of hope. That's what makes Pearl Jam so badass. Hope and love is all we have.

    Drinking and listening to music is always a mind bending combination.

    Years ago, after drinking myself into the middle of the next century :D , I saw the video for Glen Campbell's 'Rhinestone Cowboy' on TV, and I realised the song contains depressing lyrics. When you analyse the lyrics in an intoxicated state, it sounds like the story of some poor, downtrodden loser who's only motivation in life is a baseless hope that he may (not will) become a star one day.

    Yep, I think it's time for a strong coffee :lol:

    I find new revelations in PJ music often when I'm drinking, new discoveries and ideas. It's one of the great things about their music like you said. I think drinking just lets down the everyday inhibitions and allows new thought in. Remembering it all the next day is the tough part ;)
    RVM is a very hopeful song, finally breaking free, leaving behind what has tormented. It was a favorite of mine when VS came out, along with driving way too fast!

    It made listening to Rearview mirror easier. But I kept listening to Who You Are (I song that I LOVE by the way) and going "What's with the fuckin' moss?" :P And then once I started picking a part Nothing As It Seems I just decided to pass out.
