Excerpt from an interview for Metronews Toronto:

"Vedder: Sean, at one point, knew Gordon (Peterson, the person behind Indio) or had been in contact with him or had friends who were friends of his. And Sean has really good, really eclectic musical tastes. He can quote Phil Ochs at the drop of a hat or recite a 12-minute Bob Dylan song. I think he knew this fellow, Gordon, and loved this song.

I wrote something for this part of the film (the soundtrack for Into the Wild is essentially an Eddie Vedder solo record) and he said “I think that’s good, but I think we need to go with Hard Sun.” And I thought, “Great. That’s less work for me to do. And then he said, “No, no. YOUR version of it.”

I tried to be really true to his delivery. It’s a great, great song. But I’ve not met (Peterson) or talked to him. I hope he liked it."

Which part of the movie is "Hard Sun" in? Would "Better Days" fit in? Ed could easily change lyrics, and then switch to original when song was rejected.

I can't believe so many people like this song! :?

Ziggy, if there was one Ed grunt in it, you would think it's the next Release. It's the only thing missing, am I right?

Ed grunt = the next Release? WTF?

I'd like to expand on this comment but I can't since I've already received a warning from Kat for making Ed cry with my very rude posts about disliking this new song.....I can say that you have no idea what you're talking about, jambayleaf.

Apparently there are ways to criticise songs without being rude.....I'll try Kat.....I'll try.....only for you though and only since you asked me so nicely. And give Eddie my love! I still love you...and still find you highly do-able. I just don't like this new song.

*blows kisses to Ed and Kat*

I was just kidding. Just have read how much you like the Ed grunt.

I wanna say that there's a little hitchhiking going on when hard sun is playing and it's generally an uplifting portion of the movie but i could be wrong. If that's the case and this song is supposed to go there it makes a lot of sense.

My vote goes to post riot act and more circa into the wild. I think there's one line in this song that sounds like a line in Olympic platinum. I know- it's a stretch but around 3:34 or so.

Either way- I wonder what would happen if someone or many people hold up "better days" signs at the next concert.

I was contemplating making a sign to take over to europe with me, but i wont be anywhere near the front so it would kind of be pointless

Weird  I just came on here to post almost the same exact thing, I was going to say from 2:25 on I think it might be one of the best PJ moments. I keep backing it up to hear the last 1:45...goose bump inducing indeed

  • I think this could be a demo recorded earlier this year. Via Jeff & Mike they recorded several demos in the Spring. This would also explain why the song was being passed around by people within the PJ camp right now. Why would they be passing around a song recorded 8 years ago to each other now??? Plus you can tell this song hasn't been touched by Brendan O' Brien. I think it's a demo!
Yea, it does seem logical that they would be passing around a new mixed version or something.

I cant believe this. someone is actually saying this may be a demo? you all need to stop pretending to know what you're talking about. for real. this doesnt even have other members of pearl jam on it. this is just frickin ed. not from riot act. not a demo. not a pearl jam song.

I thought its been confirmed the song title was from the Riot Act sessions.. not sure when it was recorded though, but the song was worked during Riot Act.

Which would likely be to just not aknowledge it. As much as I'd love to hear this song live I think we're more likely to get "Evil Little Goat" than "Better Days".
