and if I had to choose.. if I reallllly had to choose between Pearl Jam playing 20 perfect sounding songs all tour compared to Pearl Jam playing 80 average sounding songs all tour.... I choose 80 songs.
Because "average" for Pearl Jam is still a sooooo much better than almost anything else.
Nickelback makes such terrible music that it boggles the mind. I bet their fans have an average IQ of at least 30 pts less than average.

agreed. I'm trying to be objective too... but recently I've only really been to PJ shows The last two non-PJ shows I was at were both in very small theatre type venues. (Tragically Hip & Broken Bells) Both were good, but it's difficult to compare due to differences in venue and style.

"Eewwwwwwww..........aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh..............this band is great"
I love PJ MORE because they DONT need to blow shit up. It's the music that leaves you awestruck, not the pyro bullshit.
Fuckin' hilarious. I don't normally actually laugh when reading but this is hilarious... "let's blow some shit up and distract 'em" CLASSIC.
i really really love this part:
It was exactly the way Kroeger had described his vision years back. Befitting massive arena rockers, the stage was bordered by two screens, there was a massive backing screen and then five moving cubes of lights with video screens too. This meant up to seven close-ups of Chad and the boys' faces at one time. That had the ladies — and guys — cheering.
i go to PJ shows quite a bit... the sound seems good to me. Maybe I'm not an audiophile or anything like that... or maybe I don't go to concerts to critique the quality of the sound. Usually, I'm immersed in either singing... or celebrating an awesome choice of songs... or something like that.
but I will say this..
If you're Pearl Jam... and you've been told or you're fully aware that your sound is less superior than that of most other rock bands.... why risk releasing every single one of your live shows?
I've always thought that PJ raises the bar for their shows not only for the fans, but also because they know that many people will be able to listen to the concert after wards.
But... I've never ever thought to myself at a Pearl Jam show "wow, this sound is terrible" In all honesty, the only time I've ever once thought that 'sound' was bad at a concert was Our Lady Peace at the Skydome in like... 2003 or something.
Also... and I could be WAY off here... but due to Pearl Jam's vast catalog and considering that TO ME, not one... not a SINGLE one of their 100+ songs sounds similar to the next... it'd be harder to perfect the sound for all of the songs...
consider this:
If you're touring 17 songs all tour... I think it'd be easier to nail the quality of those songs as opposed to getting the quality right on for 70 songs...
and if I had to choose.. if I reallllly had to choose between Pearl Jam playing 20 perfect sounding songs all tour compared to Pearl Jam playing 80 average sounding songs all tour.... I choose 80 songs.[/quote]
I am probably not enough of an audiophile to feel THAT strongly about PJ's audio system, but suffice to say that PJ's audio system has nothing to do with "caring about the fans", which is a histrionic and whiny remark that really has no bearing on why PJ's audio system is more stripped down than Nickleback's, so yes. I can indeed read. :P I do find that the band sounds kinda old-school in person, you can tell they are going for something more vintage as opposed to IMAX theatre. I don't really have a problem with this, but if someone else does, I respect that view. The not caring about fans thing is silly, though.

he must have read the ny post article bashing pearl jam's msg performance for not having any stage gimmicks.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
Butthead: Huh huh.
Here is another article by the guy. Again.. he is bashing pearl jams audio system here compared to the Eagles. Not their music. He actually rated Backspacer well. he is right. Their sound system sucks these days. We should all be saying something as well so they fix it.

i don't blame him for that
he got pelted in the head with a rock
i think it's smart of him that he was like i am aware now that it does not go over well when we get on stage and people have not specifically come there looking to see us. we will only do this in the future-

How do people find these articles? Are they googling Pearl Jam? If they are...lame. If not, are they reading articles about Nickleback? If so, it is strange since they supposedly hate Nickleback.
You all may think Nickleback's music is lame, but hating them five years after it was cool to hate them is more lame.

Entering the stadium, it was clear the audience was of a questionable level of taste ... you think?
