Dont do it!!!! Don"t take down the posters. She has to accept it, if it is something you really enjoy. In return, you must accept things that she enjoys.
weeellll she likes the posters and such, but i now only get half the room not the whole thing....8/29/00*5/2/03*7/2/03*7/3/03*7/11/03*9/28/04*5/24/06*6/28/08*5/15/10*5/17/10* 10/16/13*10/25/13* 4/28/16*4/28/16*8/5/16*8/7/16 EV 6/15/11 Brad 10/27/020 -

If I knew where it was I would take you there. There's much more than this0 -
not wrong at all. bench her even once and the tradition and the commitment is broken and you'll get stuck buying pairs and going alone more and more each year. if he wants in, make him fly you to one that you and her weren't seeing to begin with.Corey Lynn wrote:I go to the shows with my best friend Andrea. We met in 7th grade 18 years ago talking about Pearl Jam. It is our thing. We take a road trip and get away from it all. My favorite memories are the trips we take to see PJ.
My husband always says "maybe someday, I can go to a show with you". I tell him that he can get his own tickets, but the Ten club tickets are for Andrea and I. He is offended by this...but, I cannot help it...it is something that I cannot change..and do not want to change. Is this wrong?0 -
I''m still trying to get my wife to feel the same way. I just don't think shes into music that much.
But good for you and your unique relationship.0 -
The fact that you said "Family" and not that nauseating word that begins with a "J", means you actually do get it and must be a kick ass wife and person.
Wish my wife was even on the 1st stage of your Pearl Jam journey.0 -
I'm going to let my husband read this, he still doesn't get it. The other day he actually said, "you've already seen them live, why not just listen to the cd now?" Urgh. I retorted by telling him he was boring and just didn't get it. He thinks it's a weird obsession thing, but music in general is a religion for me and PJ is the saints (for lack of better comparison???). I made him listen to non-stop PJ on the way to-and-from the show (a total of 12 hours, plus driving around in St. Louis) and he asked me if I had enough yet the other day. I just told him that I'd been listening to them for 10 years and haven't had enough yet, I don't think the end is in site anytime soon. Anyway, he better just learn to live with it, because hopefully I will have a more travel-friendly car and job with better pay so we can attend 2-3 shows next tour
.
*He also told me the other day that there should be a support group for PJ spouses, maybe you guys could get to work on that, lol.Hearts and thoughts they fade....

Yeah I hear ya! Gave up trying after 20 yrs. I finally took him to Philly last Oct. and all he was interested in was the World Series score on his phone. It's a shame he never learned to love 'em. I really think it is a jealousy thing...PJ's the other man!there once was a note...LISTEN !0 -
I took my wife to the show in Newark this past week, her first show, my 2nd. I have been listening to PJ since I was 12, and the myusic has always had a special place in my heart. My wife never understood the fire and passion with which I followed. The next morning after Newark, she had pretty much the same realization--that she gets it, and understands why this music has been such a big part of my life. Now she says she wants to go to as many concerts as we can!0

I have a pearl jam spouse - my husband. He is EXTREMELY tolerant. I am flying to Europe this summer with the only one of my friends that he really dislikes and he is still ok. He also has to put up with the slide show of ev and pj pictures that compose my screen saver. He is a peach but he will never be a convert. Ah - I love him just the same.fuck 'em if they can't take a joke

I took my wife (now of 13 years) to Camden in 2003 and she was expecting to snuggle on the lawn on a blanket as if it were a James Taylor concert... she was never "into it" and it was "one and done" as far as PJ went...
after 30+ concerts for me, including Philly 1-4 and Toronto last year, she agreed to meet me for MSG 2, after I saw Newark and MSG 1.
I told her she had to "learn" the music, since we all know what it is like at a PJ concert... she was familiar with Ten and Vs. and a few others... I printed out the lyrics to the songs, and made CDs for her: Backspacer + selected songs, Atlanta '94, Vitalogy + selected songs, Avocado live mix I made, and Yield.
She put in about 2 months before she started talking to me about the songs, and we had a long car ride in late April in which we listened and talked about the songs/lyrics/meanings... it was the first time in over a decade of marriage that we "shared" this...
Cut to Friday night and there she was belting out the lyrics, thrusting her fist in the air, and becoming a part of "it"... she now "gets it": driving home from the train station this morning, we listened to No Code and Boston 2003 disc 1...37 PJ Shows, 3 EV Shows, 1134 Total Songs, 24 Different Openers, 9 Different Closers, 252 Unique Songs (never enough)0 -
I am the original, my husband is the spouse. He used to listen to country music. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that (ok, yeah, who am I kidding there is. At least in my book.).
I've seen the band probably 15 times before I met him and brought him to a small-ish show in Portland that was a CCFA benefit. That really turned him around. I think he just had his 5th show in Cleveland.
It's kind of fun having a built in travelling companion who understands the obsession.
Congrats to the OP on "getting it".0 -

are you referring to the fringe benefits of traveling to a PJ show with a spouse?37 PJ Shows, 3 EV Shows, 1134 Total Songs, 24 Different Openers, 9 Different Closers, 252 Unique Songs (never enough)0 -

My name is Christine. I am a Pearl Jam spouse.
Most of you know/have one...someone in your life that isn't as "in to" PJ as you are but quietly (and in my case, with a bit of eye-rolling and complaining!) follow you to the concerts in various locations around the US, get excited when you win the PJ item on eBay you've been watching, traveled to the stores for Backspacer CDs, DVDs, t-shirts. We're out here and we love you.
I just wanted to share a bit of my experience. A view from the other side if you will.
My husband of just over a year, Mike, has been a PJ fan for a long time...may have let the Ten Club membership lapse so we are still waiting to win the lottery but a die-hard fan none-the-less. When PJ came to New England in 2008 and he wanted to go to Hartford and Mansfield twice, I did a LOT of eye-rolling and "Really. Three shows in 4 days? Really."
I am now proud to say that after my 10th show in a little less than 2 years, I get it. I really get it. The whole "community" thing, the whole PJ "4 shows in a row" thing, my bawling during Footsteps in Newark thing. I get it all now. I now find myself the one explaining to co-workers and friends "No. No. It's not the same show every night. Yes, Pearl Jam is still around." I may not be freaking when I hear Sweet Lew live cause I don't realize this is the one-time-and-one-time-only that I will hear it, but I get it. I get it to the point that I purchased a photo by the amazing PJ photog Brian Babineau for the Team McCready charity and have it displayed prominently in my home...it was my 2nd ever show. Traveling around New England seeing the tribute band Backseat Lover also helped me get it...a small "family" that I can learn and grow with in regards to PJ.
So thank you. Thank you to my husband, thank you to the band, and thank you to the community that has allowed me to share a little of their passion.
Chris

I am the original PJ nut. I got my wife hooked by going to the Mansfield II show in 2008. Then we went to EV solo in Boston and recently went to the Boston show earlier in the week . She was blown away with the latest Boston show like myself. While she is not as crazy as me (I pretty much listen to them 24-7, is that normal) she loves BS and I got in her car today and she was blasting one of the Gorge Cd's. I am having an even bigger impact on our kids though. When I picked my 5yr old daughter up from pre-school the day of the latest Boston show she said "daddy I drew you a pick today in class" She proceeded to hand me a picture and told me it was PJ playing that night at the Garden. Stick figures of Matt and his drums, EV with the microphone and Mike with the guitar, she missed two but she is 5. She also loves to sing at the top of her lungs to BS. My 8yrd told me tonight that PJ is his favorite band and he will sing all of their songs. It is tough to cut through all the clutter and crap these kids are hit with (the Disney channel crap) but I feel I am making a small impact along with my wife.0

ha! I didn't even think about it having more than one meaning!
I really meant "getting it" meaning the glory of Pearl Jam. But there are benefits to traveling with your spouse/significant other. For instance, my husband always knows the way back to the hotel.

Love the message. Its really really dificult for people to understand our passion, and I am happy that you have. Its a great feeling!0
