Undoubtedly. Just a fucking masterpiece.
People that are only discovering the band from the new album don't know what they're missing out on. The first 2 albums are tremendous, and Because of the Times is pretty awesome too. Only by the Night is by far their weakest effort.
I'll keep saying it.......they just need to change up their live sets a bit more. I know it's not the norm for most bands, and we are spoiled by PJ. But, a bit more stage presence and changing up the sets would take them a long ways, IMO.
Totally agree 100%. Nice work...
By the way, since we are talking about them, if someone has an extra copy of Youth & Young Manhood on vinyl that they are willing to sell please let me know and we can be best friends forever9/1/00, 4/28/03, 7/5/03, 7/6/03, 7/12/03, 10/1/04, 9/28/05, 5/27/06, 5/28/06, 6/1/06, 6/27/08, 6/30/08, 8/7/08 (EV), 6/12/09 (EV), 10/27/09, 10/28/09,10/30/09, 10/31/09, 5/21/10, 6/15/11 (EV), 9/2/12, 7/19/13, 10/21/13, 10/22/13, 10/27/13, 4/28/16, 4/29/16, 8/7/16, 11/4/16 (TOTD), 8/18/18, 8/20/18, 9/24/21 (EV&Earthlings), 9/26/21, 9/11/2022, 9/14/2022, 9/7/2024, 9/9/2024, 9/12/2024, 5/16/2025, 5/18/20250 -

I dig KoL plenty, but PJ is just on a different level.0

I agree, they should have just made an EP out of the album, if they dropped 17, Be Somebody, I Want You and Revelry they would have been left with 7 really strong songs that stand up to anything they've written before.0 -
Because of the Times is the best Kings of Leon album. I like every song on there as opposed to their other albums which have songs that I have to skip. McFearless and Knocked Up ar amazing songs. Arizona is also a great song to wrap it all up2006: Albany
2008: MSG I, MSG II, Newark(EV)
2009: Albany 1-2(EV), Philly 3
2010: Boston, MSG I
2013: Buffalo, Brooklyn II, Hartford
2016: MSG 1, MSG II, Fenway 10 -

Charmer might be their worst song. Those vocals are like nails on a chalkboard0 -

They aren't the best vocals by any means but they are interesting and thats why I love that song. Even my girlfriend who listens to only pop and country music likes this song based on the vocals. They catch your attention. I mainly enjoy the bass line in Charmer more than anything else2006: Albany

the bass line is such a tease. it starts and you think you are gonna hear a great song. then the singing starts and the skip button gets hit. the vocals in that song are even worse live...I still don't understand why that was played in the majority of their encores last tour.
everyone has their own opinions...I feel strongly that their 2 first albums are much better than their last 2. Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, there isn't a bad song on either of the first 2 albums. That certainly can't be said about the last 2.0 -

I dunno, he goes pretty mental towards the end of Trani too - I don't mind either songs, but I could understand how some might be put off.0 -
So how is the tickets for PJ going in Hyde Park? This is the most bizzare thing that 4-5 years ago KOL were supporting PJ & now they bigger than PJ in some places in the world. I know in the UK hype has played a major part for their rise which is probably not their fault but this is just weird to me.Eastern Creek 95,Syd 1 98,Bris 2 98, Syd 1&2 03, Reading Fest 06, Bris 1 06, London 09, Hyde Park 10, Gold Coast BDO 14 Budapest 22 Krakow 22 Amsterdam 22 St Paul 1&2 23 Chicago 1&2 23 Chicago 1&2 24 New York 1 24 Philly 1&2 24 Boston 1&2 24 Gold Coast 24 Melbourne 1 24 Sydney 1&2 240

They're the first half-decent commercial-friendly band since The White Stripes in the last 10 years. They're pretty good, nothing spectacular, but nothing else in the last decade on the radio has really been even close to being respectable. There's a lot of good bands, but nothing with widespread appeal like them.Pittsburgh 6/23/06

kol were big in the UK well before they were big in the US.... years before :shock:2003 - Sydney x3,2006 - Reading Festival,2007 - Katowice, London, Nijmegen, Rock Werchter,2008 - MSG x2, Hartford, Mansfield x2, Beacon Theater,2009 - Melbourne, Sydney,2010 - I watched it go to fire!2011 - EV Brisbane x3, Newcastle, Sydney x3,2012 - Manchester x 2, Amsterdam x2, Prague, Berlin x2, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen,2014 - Sydney, EV Sydney x3

Deebs41 wrote:It seems like a lot of their fanbase is split between liking either their first two or last two records, which makes sense because they completely overhauled their sound to go from playing in clubs to headlining arenas.
I get why a lot of the newer fans have a hard time getting into their earlier stuff, it sounds nothing like their current record.
I guess I'm in the minority then. I think the best albums are the middle two. Aha, and BOTTNERDS!0 -

My thoughts the Brits and europeans love them.
I was turned on to KOL a few years back by a neighbor living here in the states who is from England.
He can' get enough of them.
My feelings let Europe have them.
I can take the lead singers voice for about 1/2 a song before hit another artist.
I guess it's much like U2 here.0 -

The Strokes are/were nowhere near the level of WS or KoL. They had a ton more hype, maybe.0 -
KOL imo are a O.K band never be a great band... all you got to do is compair the music to any other great band, and you see how weak the singer is and the band around tbh...London(the o2) 18~08~2009

Hey, I respect your right to an opinion, but I think you're talking rubbish. Caleb Followill has one of the most distinct and recognisable voices around. What great bands are you comparing them to? I mean the Rolling Stones are considered a great band, but as a singer Mick Jagger has never been technically impressive. I'm not knocking Jagger, because rock and roll isn't about being perfect, it's about playing with passion and conviction.
Check out KOL's song Closer - in no way could the vocals be considered "weak", I get it if you just don't really appreciate his voice, I know a lot of people feel the same, but that doesn't mean he's a bad singer - I mean Celine Dion's technically an impressive singer, but I'd rather cut my ears off than listen to her music!

In fact this might be an even better example of what a decent singer he is - Cold Desert (live at the O2):

"its not just about the singing" i just dont feel a connection with the band when i listen to them, i listen to PJ and i can just close my eyes and drift of to another world and the same with alot of band i love, but KOL imo for me just dont do it. Again just saying how i feel

Yeah I see where you are coming from, I just don't think that equates to weak vocals. I wouldn't say all their songs hit me on a particularly emotional level, but I think songs like Arizona and Cold Desert are totally mining the same vein as bands like Pearl Jam.
I just got finished reading an interview with the band and it's funny because they totally get why a lot of people don't like them particularly after their most recent record sent them stratospheric. Apparently they didn't even want to put Sex on Fire and Use Somebody on the record because they knew they would be perceived as sell outs and what not. I think the next record is gonna be quite different.0
