Im probably going to get abused for saying this but what the hell is the massive draw of the Kings of Leon. they are the most overrated band i have ever seen. ill admit that i like some of their singles but all the albums are full of filler. they sold 65000 tickets today for hyde park. not even bruce, neil young or pj did that. any thoughts?

i wish i wish i wish i wish, i guess it never stops

    Holy cow!

IT appears the biggest gig of KINGS OF LEON'S career is not quite big enough.

The US band announced details of a 65,000-capacity concert in Hyde Park - their largest ever headlining show - on June 30 earlier this week.

But thousands of fans of the US rockers were left disappointed this morning after tickets sold out just seconds after going on sale on the Live Nation website.

Bassist JARED FOLLOWILL said in a statement: "It's a great honour to be playing Hyde Park.

"It's something that a band can only dream of; to be put in the same category as the groups that have played before us is just unbelievable.

"Bring sun block and your earplugs."

Well they're probably the biggest rock band in the world right now, so it's not really a surprise. To be fair, they have a lot of cross-over appeal and the mainstream music fans have welcomed them with open arms. Last time I saw them, a couple of years ago at Brixton, the crowd was full of wankers, which kind of took away from the experience.

I must disagree about their albums being "full" of filler, obviously there is some, but not that much compared to a lot of bands.

their first 2 albums are fantastic...2nd two are pretty lame.

They got soft and changed their image...such a shame

The third is easily their most consistent, in my opinion.
  • I listened to the first two after I bought the most recent one. I hated them.

Charmer has some of the worst vocals in music history. Ragoo, the Runner, Trunk, Camaro...all average songs at best.

There isn't a bad song on either of the first two albums

You're right, the first two albums were great records...they kind of reminded me of a hybrid of AC/DC and Lynard Skynard. The last two were waaay too polished and bubble gummy.

A lot of ticket touts must have bought tickets as well. Same with "regular" fans buying extras trying to offset the price of their tickets...

honestly, they hooked me in with one of their singles, so I bought the album, but I rarely listen to it. I'll give their earlier stuff another shot.

Soft, Razz, Velvet Snow, Rememo - all not as good as the opening 6 songs on that cd.

Ragoo is a great, fun song, it's not like anything else they've done, and I like that, as do a lot of people I know. Camaro is another one I like. Plus, more to the point, the good songs on that album are as good as anything they've done if not better. Stuff like Knocked Up, McFearless, Black Thumbnail and Fans are all brilliant, culminating in their best song so far, Arizona.
  • The opening six tracks of Aha Shake Heartbreak are unrivaled. Except for maybe No Code. And possibly Yield.

It seems like a lot of their fanbase is split between liking either their first two or last two records, which makes sense because they completely overhauled their sound to go from playing in clubs to headlining arenas.
I get why a lot of the newer fans have a hard time getting into their earlier stuff, it sounds nothing like their current record.
  • i dunno, i think some of us sort of saw their new found fame when their song was used on that jetta commercial a few years back

I really like all their albums, but the third BOTT is my favorite. My least fav is their newest one.

    Undoubtedly. Just a fucking masterpiece.

People that are only discovering the band from the new album don't know what they're missing out on. The first 2 albums are tremendous, and Because of the Times is pretty awesome too. Only by the Night is by far their weakest effort.

I'll keep saying it.......they just need to change up their live sets a bit more. I know it's not the norm for most bands, and we are spoiled by PJ. But, a bit more stage presence and changing up the sets would take them a long ways, IMO.
  • They're so kickass!! Their newer CD isn't nearly as good as their older stuff, but there are some good songs on there. Their first 3 Cd's are absolutely insane. Please watch...

    Totally agree 100%. Nice work...

By the way, since we are talking about them, if someone has an extra copy of Youth & Young Manhood on vinyl that they are willing to sell please let me know and we can be best friends forever :D

I dig KoL plenty, but PJ is just on a different level.

I agree, they should have just made an EP out of the album, if they dropped 17, Be Somebody, I Want You and Revelry they would have been left with 7 really strong songs that stand up to anything they've written before.
  • Because of the Times is the best Kings of Leon album. I like every song on there as opposed to their other albums which have songs that I have to skip. McFearless and Knocked Up ar amazing songs. Arizona is also a great song to wrap it all up

Charmer might be their worst song. Those vocals are like nails on a chalkboard

They aren't the best vocals by any means but they are interesting and thats why I love that song. Even my girlfriend who listens to only pop and country music likes this song based on the vocals. They catch your attention. I mainly enjoy the bass line in Charmer more than anything else

the bass line is such a tease. it starts and you think you are gonna hear a great song. then the singing starts and the skip button gets hit. the vocals in that song are even worse live...I still don't understand why that was played in the majority of their encores last tour.

everyone has their own opinions...I feel strongly that their 2 first albums are much better than their last 2. Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, there isn't a bad song on either of the first 2 albums. That certainly can't be said about the last 2.

I dunno, he goes pretty mental towards the end of Trani too - I don't mind either songs, but I could understand how some might be put off.

So how is the tickets for PJ going in Hyde Park? This is the most bizzare thing that 4-5 years ago KOL were supporting PJ & now they bigger than PJ in some places in the world. I know in the UK hype has played a major part for their rise which is probably not their fault but this is just weird to me.
