It's been a while since people have bought more Pearl Jam than Daughtry, John Mayer, Black Eyed Peas, etc. Has Just Breathe really been this popular, or is this the SNL effect?
I don't really listen to the radio at school (no car), but when I was home for Christmas break I listened to it in my car and the radio was on all day when I was at work, and I ALWAYS heard Just Breathe. More than The Fixer as a matter of fact.

So, can we get this title to be changed to "Just Breathe" officially did it... ?
Ask and you shall receive! I will officially change the title of this thread. Hey, I'll admit I was wrong. I predicted that this song had peaked months ago. I thought it would've been long gone by the time St. Patrick's Day rolled around. Same with Backspacer... I thought that would be out of the Billboard 200 by now. So, I will change the name of the thread and acknowledge that I was wrong... BUT...
I was right with a couple of predictions (at least so far)... the song hasn't become a humongous hit to the level of past singles like Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" or Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". Those were HUGE singles that helped their albums get over platinum status. Yes, it's a successful single. Yes, it's succeeded in keeping Backspacer in the charts. Yes, it's helped the album reach over 500,000. Yes, you deserve to have the thread title changed.
By the way, not a bad second wave of promotion for the single and the album, eh? The SNL appearance obviously breathed new life into the song and the album. Maybe the tour news and a possible Letterman appearance will help a little too? Add the Austin City Limits TV appearance and I think Pearl Jam has pulled off a nice, lasting marketing campaign.

i think you are right with this for the USA market.
I will say though that promotion in the Uk has been nothing short of pitiful.

Me too. I usually listen to my IPOD in the car, but when driving short distances, I'll listen to the radio, and nearly every time I've had the radio on in the past couple of months, I've heard Just Breathe. All of my non-PJ friends love it.

Agree with pretty much everything you said. I also thought the song peaked. I will commend PJ on waiting a bit to go on SNL. I think if they rushed it, it may not have been a smart move. In fact, I was thinking it was time for a new single in early-March...
...now, I don't see a problem with them waiting until April to release... Unthought (I guess is the next single?).
All in all, they did a good job with this album... and I don't think it's really done quite yet. I really feel this album has two solid singles left in it... Unthought and Amongst. I know they most likely will just choose one. But, if they didn't have this other album in waiting, I would think it would be possible (although still unlikely) for two more singles. One in April, one in June.... Amongst the Waves would be perfect for the summer.
My boss calls this "her song" everytime it comes on the radio, which is cool, but today I heard her talking about Eddie Vedder's voice.... so apparently she's a big PJ fan which is so cool!
For the week ending March 27, 2010 (the week where "Just Breathe" jumped from 94 to 78 on the Hot 100), it came in at #70 on the Hot Digital Sales chart, the first time it has cracked that 75-position chart.
This week's charts will be released today/tomorrow, so we'll see if the spike extended beyond the day after "SNL."
For the week ending April 3, 2010 (the same week "Just Breathe" held steady at No. 78 on the Hot 100), it moved up from No. 70 to No. 63 on Hot Digital Sales.
Pearl Jam now big fans of The Hold Steady as "Just Breathe" remains at No. 78 for a third week (Week Ending April 10, 2010), with no bullet.
Hot 100 chart run: 99-92-88-89-91-94-92-94-78-78-78
The song sees a one-notch jump on Hot Digital Sales, from No. 63 to No. 62.
Digital Sales chart run: 70-63-62.
looks like 78 might be the highest it will chart. Itunes sales have been in 50-70 range. And it's been down most of the week in the Hot AC and Triple A charts. But there's still 2 more days to go. Call your radio stations.
not sure how the charts are going but Iv'e had 4 or 5 different people (ok women) tell me in the last 2 weeks how they love this song - and they are not regular PJ fans. this song is reaching a new audience for sure.

i dont think its got another big radio hit on it though. no, i dont think UK will do much if its the single.
I haven't heard it yet on stations.
Gotta be at least one more right? I'm thinking Unthought Known based on SNL and that TV show they lended it to.
It won't be as successful as the others because "music dummies" won't be able to get over the lack of a repetitive hook. Great song though.
A new peak for the week ending 3/27/2010, after an SNL-fueled jump from 94 to 78:

Will post download info when I obtain it.
