After living there for three years, I'll admit I have Indy issues, but that's not why we were trying for MSG. Spring is a busy time for us, thanks to soccer, races, birding (don't ask -- my boys are maniac birders; it's kind of like being a PJ fan, only instead of hitting "refresh" for hours, you stand out in the woods with a pair of binoculars for hours), etc. My older son is taking some AP exams in early May, so flying or driving to where we actually can get tickets does not work due to what already was on the schedule. The MSG dates were the only ones we could fit on the calendar, and, yes, they also were closest for us.

I guess we will have to skip this tour and use our memories of Philly (and our eternal optimism re: Philly boots) to tide us over. (No, not able to try through TM on Friday.)

  • coming to a show in columbus, indy, or cleveland is an easy non-stop flight. our fair midwestern cities are not as bad as you seem to think. we won't be making sex on goats in the middle of our downtown streets. well, i might, but this is a special occasion for me. most people won't be doing that. there is life between the coasts. remember, it's not a given that MSG and boston will be the best shows on this tour. remember places like state college, grand rapids, etc. who knows, if you try it, you might like it. no means yes. don't fight it, mommy.

Sure. We'll just take time off from work, pull our kids out of school, fly them half way across the country, and leave them with total strangers while we rock out.

I hear you - and i thought about doing it, but i might as well take the money I would spend on the airfare and hotel and go to a ticket broker (if i strike out on TM). Then i can take the 1/9 train to the Garden and be home in 20 minutes after the show.

waaaaaaaaaaaah. as if your situation is that much different than the 10's of thousands of other fans who travel for shows. there are plenty of other ways to make it happen, aside from the extremely inconvenient way you're suggesting.

I would love to but all the dates (with the exception of Cleveland, which is unfortunately on Sunday and a school night) are weekdays.

The closest a show has ever been to me is 2.5 hours (Pittsburgh). I have avoided MSG for years. I can stay at a Motel 6 outside Kansas City for $29.99 and the tickets are cheaper. I would have to pay at least $200 per night to stay in NYC. The Pearl Jam dollar stretches much futher if you avoid Boston and New York. Your seats are usually better too. I grew up in Boston and I am a Red Sox fan so it is not that I dislike it. And yes, there are much nicer cities in this country than NYC. Southwest and Airtran are having big sales now if you don't want to drive.
