Welcome to the board! Nice first post. I always loved that Aic riff. They played it when i saw them last week. I believe it started as sean and jerry playing around writing a joke song and they were like hey that riff is killer lets make something out of it :)

Good story, never knew that. Seeing them next week . . . cannot wait!

Thanks, been around for a while, never posted . . . too much drama  . This seemd like a worthwhile thread though.

Metallica - Harvester of Sorrow was the song that came to my mind when I read the thread title. To me though, loads of the songs posted in this thread I don't think are "heavy"... scooping out mids, palm-muting and screaming beyond comprehension isn't my idea of "heavy". I see early Black Sabbath and early Led Zep as "heavy". Though I think Metallica pretty much hit the nail on the head round about 1991.

    awesome thread!

I would say something by Pantera. Drag the Waters and A New Level come to mind.

Either "Sad But True" or "Bulls On Parade". I know there's much more intense Rage songs, but in the video for Bulls there's one scene where Tom is stomping his foot up and down with the crowd moving in unison. It's really intense.

Yup gets my vote. That guitar tone is one of a kind and gets me every time. AIC's It Aint Like That also gets an honourable mention.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Depends what you clasify has 'heavy'.

A lot of you have suggested bass-fuelled riffs, but does that make them 'heavy'?

Someone mentioned AIC's "It Ain't Like That"...that riff is so awesome...I can't get enough of it.

It probably isnt' the heaviest, but when I read the title I immediately thought of "Iron Man"...to this day, that shit is still amongst the heavier riffs.

    Nice choice.

I thought of one last night -- "The Beautiful People" by Marilyn Mansons. We can all admit that the chug of that riff is pretty damn heavy.
