I've composed a Best Ballads cd of Pearl Jam for a friend of mine. He's not into rock music, but wants to try it. I'm building it up slowly, and one day he'll be going crazy with Spin the Black Circle and Rearviewmirror! :D

Anyway, this is my list. I'm still thinking of a preferred order: Arc, Black, Come Back, Daughter, Small Town, Fatal, Footsteps, Hard to Imagine, Immortality, Just Breathe, Last Kiss, Let me Sleep, Long Road, Low Light, Nothingman, Off he Goes, Soon Forget, Strangest Tribe, The End, Thin Air, Thumbing my Way, Wasted Reprise, Wishlist, Yellow Ledbetter. I've also added Vedder's songs Guaranteed, Rise and Society.

Do you have additions and what would be your list?

I just did this for a friend......Remember to use studio versions as often they are more tame. Here would be my list:

    Betterman
    Nothingman
    Daughter
    Immortality
    Small Town
    Just Breath
    The End
    Yellow
    Come Back
    Parachutes
    Long Road
    Low Light
    Black
    Off He Goes

Start with this, then get into more rare songs like Strangest Tribe and so forth. Just a thought. It worked on this person. She also loved the studiot version of Given to Fly.

I would suggest All Those Yesterdays and Parachutes. Let me think in the order of the songs and I'll update my post.

I changed the header a bit. I''d like to see your ranking and maybe a song which hasn't been mentioned yet.

My list would definitely contain Black, Small Town, Immortality, Just Breathe, The End and the impressive Thumbing my Way.

This is my third or fourth time giving a list of this sort. OK, here is another list, of what a female non-rock fan, top 40 radio loving, know-nothing-about-PJ person should enjoy:

    8. Just Breathe
    9. Thin Air
    10. Nothingman
    11. Crazy Mary
    12. Indifference
    13. Release
    14. The End

    DISC 2

I am not sure the term ballad works too well for pearl jam (thankfully). I was recently looking for wedding songs that I could convince my non-pearl jam fan fiance (who has seen them twice, at MSG and Philly on Halloween last year thanks to me) and nothing really fit. I mean, they've never hit "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" territory. They have some good slower songs, but I think they would fit in the context of a greater album or mix than a CD dedicated solely to slow songs. That would almost be boring cause you'd be waiting for them to kick into high gear the whole time.
