I agree with what you are saying.. in principle. The only Americans that are shouldering the full weight of this war are the soldiers and their families. The rest of us aren't doing shit. We are not feeling any of the pains... not even the financial pains of war. We are not being forced to cut anything out of our lives.... no rationing of goods and services... we are not under the fear and stress of our kids being drafted into service. We think that all we have to do is slap a fucking magnet (that was made in China) on the backs of our SUVs and we're done with it.
I believe that Tomas' story brings it home to us. What happens to Tomas happens to all combat vets. I believe WE... this generation that is responsible for this bullshit needs to be taxed to pay for the harm inflicted on our combat soldiers and their families. We should pay their bills, instead of passing on the bill for our kids to pay.
It shameful how we treat our vets. We are NOT a grateful Nation when we allow our soldiers to be treated like shit when they come home. If they tell us they are suffering from emotional problems related to the war... we should not question them, we should help them... by paying for their care.
It sickens me when I hear about a soldier getting discharged because of emotional problems, thus, cutting them from Veteran's Health benefits. It sickens me when when I read about a veteran telling his wife that they would have been better off if he died over there, than coming home in a wheelchair. And don't even get me started on Walter Reed.
Hopefully, more people will see Tomas' story and quit crying about our fucking taxes. We owe it to all of our military personel... if we claim to be grateful for their actions... we need to DO something about it. I write these types of letters to my Congressman and my two Senators, urging them to raise my taxes to pay for their costs. I know it's not much... but, at least it's something.

Sears - Christmas shopping this year.

I know I needed this reminder, since Sears isn't always my first
choice. It's amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted
and Sears hasn't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at
least one thing at Sears this year?

How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military
duty?

By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but
nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as
a result of being called up for active duty.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining
all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all
called up reservist employees for up to two years.

I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be
recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears at
least once, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so
the company gets the positive reinforcement & feedback it well
deserves.

I decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the
following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department:

I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If
it is, the internet may have just become one very good source of
advertisement for your company. I know I would go out of my way to
buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if
it's cheaper at that store.

This is their answer to my e-mail:

Dear Customer:

Thank you for contacting Sears.The information is factual. We
appreciate your positive feedback.

Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices
our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen
the burden they bear at this time.
