    Not going on rant or anything, but I figure if I like someones music enough, I'll buy the album and support the artist.
    yes...but how do you know if you like someone's music enough? especially people that don't get played on the radio.
    you download it first..

    I really like the way some of the torrent sites that sprout out after Oink's demise (Gazelle and Waffles in particular) are trying to be more than freeloading spaces:
    they use editorials to promote some stuff (freeleeching it to encourage people to try it), recommendations systems, articles on a genre, etc
    ..even trying to involve independent artists that understand that, as it was long before the internet, people try out music before buying it.

    Yep soulseek is great, the download containg folder feature is amazing and they have so many users you can find pretty much anything on there. Just make sure you share some folders so you dont get banned by some anal users!

    I'm with you on that one. I've been using Soulseek now for...a yearish? Probably close to two years now. And yeah, the download containing folder is a great feature! And yeah, definitely need to share your files on there. I've ran into my fair share of those type of users when I first started.

    myspace or youtube is the first step..to see if it's even worth downloading..then quite a few listen (which for me is mostly on the commute to work) before knowing if there's staying power.

    I just usually google an album title and put .rar at the end of it. easiest way to find a rapidshare file on the net. I also use isohunt.com like everyone else

    I do torrents. The thing is, it may be illegal, but I have bought albums that I would not have otherwise purchased, because I heard them on a torrent first.

    In other words, I'm doing these artists a favor! Sometimes.... ;)
    Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

    If you don't believe in downloading music, then read this;

    dont download music/movies from public torrent sites guys...Im not saying youre going to get caught, but if you are going to get caught, its going to be from using demanoid or isohunt, etc..

    Join a private tracker. What.cd, waffles.fm, etc. (RIP oink.cd)

    I know you have to get invited, but its not impossible to do so. Just do some research online (google search "what.cd invites", or use IRC chat).

    The music there is superior to anything in a public torrent site, as you can get real cd quality stuff (FLACS) or just download the 128k or v0 for your ipods.

    just do some homework, get invited to a site, and youll have all the music you want at your figertips which can be downloaded in any format in 1 minute. Its out there to be had. Its a "sharing" network, so if youre willing to download and share, youll be welcomed with open arms.

    just my 2 cents
