To me it is probably between to sets of lyrics, but one is not a PJ song(rockin in Free World) and is a particular show(Pink Pop 92'), so not sure if it relevant to your topic, but I am fairly sure most PJ fans would say it is extremely powerful to me. Here we go!
Oh, you know where, now I can't see, I just stare...
I, I'm still alive
and,
There's one more kid
that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love,
never get to be cool. version from Pink Pop 92' specifically is just in a word "POWERFUL"!
Love them both, but in general terms, got to go with "Alive" because everytime I hear it whether Live or from Album/CD version or Video version it gives me goosebumbs, meaning has chnaged over time, more like the feeling it aspires in me, from once was rage and agression to reflection and celebration of making it through lifes tougher times.
There are so many others I love and find deep meaning in, and I think that is what makes me Love PJ and their music from their beginning stuff(Ten to Backspacer) to now!11/5/91: Troy NY "I Just Want to SCREAM... HELLO!"

One of the
"MOST" powerful lyrics for me...........
Yea I dnt want to hurt, there's so much in this world to make me bleed....
Stay with meeeeeeee, you're all I seeeeeeeee..........
Did I say that I need you, did I say that I want you????
Oh if I didn't I'm a fool you see, no one knows this more than me.....
Cuz I come clean ahhhh....
Everyone that's ever been in love, you know what I mean.0 -
Too many good lyrics but those that come to mind:
'Nothing's changed but the surrounding bullshit that has grown' - Off he goes
'All the rusted signs we ignore throughout our lves, choosing the shiny ones instead' - Thumbing my way
Awesome....the man's a genius, a poet!rustedsigns0 -
An incredibly powerful song, especially if you've lost a loved one, ends like this:
Now the man of the hour
Is takin'
His final bow
As the curtain comes down
I feel that this is just
Goodbye for now.
Musically and lyrically, could not have been written any better.0 -
- about every line from Rearviewmirror.
- "Can I forgive what I cannot forget and live a lie? I could give it one more try."0 -

So I'll just lie alone and wait for the dream where I'm not ugly and you're looking at me.
It makes me0 -
Ive got scratches all over my arms
one for each day since Ive fell apart
The whole song Footsteps for a matter of factSome words when spoken...Can't be taken back...0 -
Two sections of GTF:
A wave came crashing like a fist to the jaw
Delivered him wings, 'Hey, look at me now'
Arms wide open with the sea as his floor
Oh, power, oh
But first he was stripped and then he was stabbed
By faceless men, well, fuckers
He still stands
A few lines of I'm Open:
He's alive, but feels absolutely nothing... So, is he?
When he was six he believed that the moon overhead followed him
By nine he had deciphered the illusion, trading magic for fact.
No trade-backs...
The last part of MOTH:
He was guiding me, love, his own way
Now the man of the hour is taking his final bow
As the curtain comes down
I feel that this is just goodbye for now
Release:
I'll ride the wave
Where it takes me
I'll hold the pain
Release me
And the whole of Light Years.
All of those choke me up, make me cry or give me goosebumps, mainly due to events that have happened in my life and shaped who I am.Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.0 -
Reading this thread just makes you realise how talented Ed is......a real poet
There are just loads of meaningful Ed lyrics, many of which have already been mentioned.....but these lines are my favourite, never fail to make me feel 'uplifted'
One day... the symptoms fade. Think I'll throw these pills away.
And if hope could grow from dirt like me. It can be done.
Won't let the light escape from me.
Won't let the darkness swallow me.2006 - Dublin, Reading; 2007 - London, Copenhagen; 2008 - MSG; 2009 - SBE, Manchester, London; 2010 - Dublin, Belfast, London; 2012 - Manchester, Berlin; 2014 - Amsterdam, Milton Keynes; 2018 - London; 2022 - London; 2024 - Manchester0 -

**Glad to see someone put a lyric from Ghost on here a few posts back. Underrated song and lyrics0 -

He who forgets will be destined to remember
and
So I approach with tact, suggest that he should relax, but he's always moving much too fast.... I wonder about his insides, it's like his thoughts are too big for his size... he's been taken... so on and so forth
... because I'm an unapproachable spastic little prick most of the time.0 -
This one without doubt:
time to take leave of formal functions
time to plant seeds of reconstruction
more time, this time, to feign reluctance
it's like you're waiting for a diamond shore to wash your way
bets put aside, you're evil
let's crawl into your face
a vision, vague or not, raising a frightful wake-you-up
time for...
evacuation0 -
What's amazing is knowing the song as soon as your read the lyrics, and feeling the emotion as you read each one. wowThe wisdom that the old can't give away
How I choose to feel is how I am0 -
quit hitting yourself, come on, hit me instead
it is the most difficult thing in the world to watch someone lose a battle with demons. Man it sucks, I just want to shake them and say this to them over and overthat’s right! Can’t we all just get together and focus on our real enemies: monogamous gays and stem cells… - Ned Flanders
It is terrifying when you are too stupid to know who is dumb
