which pearl jam lyric is most powerful for you? and why?
I'm still trying to sort through which one is mine (there are so many) but I guess a couple I can think of straight away are:
'saw things.. clearer..once you were in my rearviewmirror' - for reasons of the obvious..walking away from crap..
'if I don't fall apart, will my memory stay clear''.. just too true about grief..
...will post more as I think of them..
interested to see what others think.

'Everything has chains, absolutely nothing’s changed'
gives me the shits that I always think something round the corner is gonna be different/better than the present and then, bang! you know what ..everything does have chains!..not sure if I'm an optimist or a pessimist...cause I think in the first place it's gonna get better!
that says it all in a nut shell doesn't it???
Best on the web - check them out

2008 Bonnaroo - 2009 Philly 2&3 - 2010 MSG 1&2
still hits me as hard as when I first heard it... independence, leaving home, people who stayed not seeing what I see... that kinda stuff...
Hear my name
Take a good look
This could be the day
Hold my hand
Lie beside me
I just need to say
What can I take?
I just want to be
I know that i would not ever touch you
Hold you
Feel you
Ever hold
Never again
"I know that i was born and i know that i'll die, the inbetween is mine"
"I swallow my words /the truth to keep from lying
I swallow my face just to keep from biting
I swallowed my breath I went deep I was diving
I surfaced and all of by being was enlightened"
Holy crap-- that is genius & so very powerful. Gets me every time.
And then something that rings really true to me:
"No longer overwhelmed and it seems so simple now
Its funny when things change so much, it's all state of mind"
And two other lyrics from different songs that mean a whole lot to me at the moment:
-"I will be what I could be, once I get out of this town"
-"Makes much more sense, to live in the present tense"
~not a dude~

"I'm still alive"
I had to go through a lot of crap in my life and even though there were times I didn't want to be alive anymore, I still am.
And:
"Saw things clearer once you were in my rearviewmirror"
That has a special meaning to me because things that happened to me that are too personal to tell here.
can't even begin to tell you how much these words mean to me. when i was growing up, Dad & I weren't super close at all. typical father/son head butting, etc...
then i moved away to school & they took on a new meaning. i saw him in a much different light once i realized that he wasn't trying to ruin my life growing up, but rather he was trying to raise me the right way & build my morals & values.
cut to a few years later when my Dad lost his grueling battle with ALS, and the meaning changed for me yet again. this song has helped me more than i can even begin to explain.

This is it for me. And pretty much the entirety of RVM and Present Tense.
i miss you always...
Became my favorite lyric after losing my dad a few years ago.......
Very Powerful Song in General
The O2 - Jun 22, 2010 / Odyssey Arena - Jun 23, 2010
Dublin 02 Arena - 22/6/10. Belfast Odyssey Arena - 23/6/10. London Hyde Park - 25/6/10. Berlin Wuhlheide - 30/6/10.
Manchester MEN - 20/06/12. Manchester MEN - 21/06/12
I've always thought this song was great, but since 2 months ago there were happening some big changes in my life that I never seen them coming. Listening to this song, specially those lines, gives me like some kind of hope/peace/serenity that makes all the things have a meaning.
I got id
saw things much clearer once you were in my rearview mirror
i'll ride the wave where it takes me, i'll hold the pain...release me
enough said...
What I know now.......................
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
Thats all I have to say.....
Hell of a post....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
those that dont believe it can 'save' someone, have never sat and listened and listened and listened to the same song over and over and over again and finally ..slowly, through the music, found the will, desire or just 'felt something' enough to get up again..
humbled by what everyone has shared. powerful stuff.
great lyric, for me it's my heart telling my brain (the captain) to get a grip of my relationship before i lose the greatest girl in the world. i did, we're now engaged and have a 3 year old son.
i know the song (green disease) has got nothing to do with what i'm talking about but that was my take on the lyric that got me seeing straight

"If once I could feel loved, oh stare back at me"
"I know you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a sun in somebody else's sky, but why, why, why, can't it be mine"
