"dear dad..can you see me now? i am myself..like you somehow"

can't even begin to tell you how much these words mean to me. when i was growing up, Dad & I weren't super close at all. typical father/son head butting, etc...
then i moved away to school & they took on a new meaning. i saw him in a much different light once i realized that he wasn't trying to ruin my life growing up, but rather he was trying to raise me the right way & build my morals & values.
cut to a few years later when my Dad lost his grueling battle with ALS, and the meaning changed for me yet again. this song has helped me more than i can even begin to explain.
    Hell of a post....

Thats all I have to say.....

  • I KNOW SOMEDAY....
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
    "..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
  • if anyone ever underestimates the power of music, they need only read the posts here.

those that dont believe it can 'save' someone, have never sat and listened and listened and listened to the same song over and over and over again and finally ..slowly, through the music, found the will, desire or just 'felt something' enough to get up again..

humbled by what everyone has shared. powerful stuff.
    I am mine
  • I just saw something Ed once said. I read this before, but never really thought about it. But now, thinking about it, he's so right!! "If you ever feel like getting the fuck outta here, just remember: Living is the best revenge".
  • Tell the captain 'This boats not safe And we're drowning.' Turns out he's the one making waves.

great lyric, for me it's my heart telling my brain (the captain) to get a grip of my relationship before i lose the greatest girl in the world. i did, we're now engaged and have a 3 year old son.

i know the song (green disease) has got nothing to do with what i'm talking about but that was my take on the lyric that got me seeing straight

``All the rusted signs, we ignore throughout our lives, choosing the shiny ones instead'' - another powerful lyric in which to live by

"Things were different then. All is different now.
    I tried to explain. Somehow...."
This lyric is probably one that will always hit my soul button. Always has, always will.. I think the best pearl jam lyrics are straight up descriptions of the state of the writers soul that particular moment.

And he still gives his love, he just gives it away
the love he receives is the love that is saved.
    why?
    I believe in love and
I have come to believe all we leave this world with is love
  • He floated back down 'cause he wanted to share his key to the locks on the chains he saw everywhere
Burt first he was stripped and then he was stabbed by faceless men, well, fuckers
    He still stands

And he still gives his love, he just gives it awas
The love he receives is the love that is saved

    - Just a super powerful lyric, to me, about someone who gives of him/her self regardless of the consequences because they just beleive it's right.

I know someday you'll have a beautiful live, I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky, but why, why, why can't it be mine?

This lyric may be their most powerful ever and hit's me right now because of a recent break up.
  • Small town predicts my fate... perhaps that's what no-one wants to see
  • I was alone and far away,
When I heard the band start playing...
I was alone and far away when I heard the band start playing!

...I was always a DeadHead, but when I first heard Winston Rodney, aka the Burning Spear, sing, I became a SpearHead too!
