Easiest question ever.

Barrie. Molson Park. August 22. Why?

- First time seeing PJ live.
- Gorgeous summer's day/evening.
- My 20th Birthday.
- 30,000 people: GA
- Fun weekend away with about 8 of my best friends.
- Probably one of the best weekends of my life.

This experience changed me from casual PJ fan to hardcore fan. I have been obsessed with them ever since.

Very good show for sure. I think it's a case of where people rave about it because of the quality of the bootleg. I think the show is a top 5-6 from the '98 tour, but I wouldn't call it far and away the best.

However: best Immortality ever.

Is that the show where Ed says "HOW YOU BE, YOU PEOPLE OF THE SEA!" Love that one.

notes: The show was broadcast on the radio throughout Australia, and on the internet in real time on JJJ. As is typically the case, the shows get better on second or third nights, and PJ’s third show in Melbourne is tremendous. Ed slips in a tribute to the late Michael Hutchence (of INXS) during ‘In My Tree’ (”I’m so high I hold just one breath, give it to INXS, just like my innocence”). Some guitar chords from Midnight Oil’s ‘Beds are Burning’ lead to a wonderful version of ‘Corduroy,’ which includes the little stop/start thing during the bridge towards the end. Ed’s wonderful baritone comes through on ‘Wishlist’ and the “Camaro” line is changed to “I wish I was the full moon shining off your bulldozer’s hood,” plus “I wish I was the sound, of 50 million hands upraised for Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan,” and “I wish I was lucky man … well I guess that I am … I wish I could share with my friends, oh how many things that I have.” ‘Even Flow’ again awesome, featuring really extended soloing from Mike; very prolific and a manic version of ‘StBC’ (dedicated to “… all those who work at Triple J and the guys who work at PBS”). The ‘Daughter’ outtro/improv (”poor little girl screaming traffic in her hair …”) is a Shudder to Think song titled ‘Pebbles.’ A couple of verses from ‘Crazy Mary’ lead to ‘Elderly Woman.’ ‘Porch’ leads off as the slower version (like Bridge ‘96), but later speeds into the more familiar, rocked out version.

I concur, this was my first PJ gig and i was totally blown away.
It cemented Pearl Jam as my favourite band

This is like Leaving Las Vegas right here.” Drinking a beer after ‘Lukin,’ Ed says he wishes he had some to share and tells the crowd they should feel lucky since they got to see X play. ‘White Girl’ is a X cover song. ‘Last Exit’ closes the show, with Ed proclaiming, “See you all later … I’m going to go watch Siegfried and Roy.” (’Porch’ was on the written setlist but isn’t played.)

Yes, this one looks as if it Sucked.

After looking over the set list from 9/11/98 I can't agree that this is their best ever.

9/18/98 would be my show of choice from the Yield tour, Constitution Hall is such an intimate venue and seeing PJ there would top most all others...besides The Showbox.

I wouldn't say that it sucked. It was unmemorable. Ed was either still drunk or hungover from the night before. The night before is definitely memorable for the drunkest that I have ever seen Ed.
Worst shows of 98 were some of the shows in Australia, because it was apparent that something was going on.
Chicago, Virginia Beach, and WPB are probably the best of 98.

Yeah! Dallas was hilarious! Also St. Louis '98 talk about great versions of every single song in the show. Then again, Dallas includes the worst performance of Jeremy. EVER.
