although it's in 328th place on Target's bestsellers. I don't know if that only for online purchases or for stores and online.
It seems to say a lot about how badly Target has handled its marketing if a Target exclusive of a well-received record by a major American rock band is 328th (online or otherwise) less than three months after its release. Target has done virtually nothing to emphasize, "There's a new Pearl Jam album out and, hey, you can pretty much only get it here!" You'd never know it from the in-store displays, the newspaper circulars, I'm guessing that there's nothing calling attention to it on the website. They should have had copies of the CD at every register.

You would hope they would resurrect the commercial right before x-mas. i mean there's a target commercial every 5 seconds. They could slip in the pj one once in awhile.

Check out Target's weekly circular this week. "Backspacer" is one of about 18 albums pictured, in tiny photos, below the week's new releases. The photos for most of the other albums are accompanied by the title and artist. "Backspacer" has neither. It says "CD + 2 downloads, Target + iTunes exclusive." The photo is too small to even make out that the artwork spells out Pearl Jam across the top. Seriously, Target might as well not promote the album at all.

I noticed the same thing - I couldn't read Pearl Jam on it as it was so darn small.
All that matters is that we love Backspacer, right? We all make decisions that we look at later and learn a lesson from. They surely will not do this whole Target nonsense again.

Unthought Known is fucking bland bullshit and judging by the posts I've seen on this board and RM, it's the most overrated PJ song ever. Like Inside Job before it, a lot of people just want to believe that a song on the new album is amazing when it's clearly not.

Inside job is a masterpiece (for me). I get chills with the opening and then take off with the whole song.
It is too bad that it doesn't do it for you.
EDIT: And don't forget, what you "clearly" like or dislike is totally subjective. It never ceases to amaze me that some people think that everyone has the exact same tastes as themselves.

No, it's not too bad for me because there are hundred of songs that give me that feeling. I think Inside Job...like All or None, is a totally anti-climatic album closer. I remember reading posts when it came out calling it "epic" and comparing it to Stairway To Heaven. I couldn't disagree more....but to each their own I guess.

Well it's too bad IMO. Now I wouldn't compare it to something as epic as Stairway to Heaven, but I would say it is one of the best songs to come out of this band in the last 10 years, and yes I realize that is saying something.

'Bland bullshit,' and 'people just want to believe that a song on the new album is amazing.' <---No idea what you are going on about..it's all relative..for example, I'm not a fan of Inside Job, and never have been....5 minute intros are not my thing, but when I listened to Backspacer for the first time, Unthought Known totally blew me away, and is still my favorite by far....I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how dumb and naive it may be ....and there are a good number of 'amazing' songs on the new record..in my opinion of course..

put on a slow, dumb show for you
and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
god I'm very, very frightening
and I'll overdo it'

I think alotta people see that it's 7 minutes long and get it in their heads that it's alot more "progressive" than it really is. I think it's one of the better ones on S/T, but Stairway it isn't.
One of their best in 10 years? Maybe, but that's not saying alot.
They haven't done much better than middle of the road the last couple albums. They've lost their edge.
RA was a good effort as far as attempting to write interesting music, but there was somethin missing.
Ten-Binaural was their golden age and to think that they can be that good again, in studio, is asking for something that just doesnt happen.
I think that Unthought or Force of Nature would make great 3rd singles if they chose to release another. i really like Unthought a lot...that piano drives the song and sounds amazing.
Inside Job still blows me away as well. As much as I love that song, it's not my favorite on S/T...that nod goes to Marker.

Yeah, songs like 'Help Help' are real fucking interesting ....and I'd take Backspacer over Binaural any day..

-my dad after hearing Not for You for the first time on SNL .
Just Breathe made it into the Active Rock charts also. So I'm guessing it'll move higher next week. Or at least have an asterisk for more spins.
yeah man I'm pretty sure its climbed every week...hopefully after it peaks, they'll bitch slap the world with Unthought Known

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but this love/shit divide is a bit extreme.
Totally, the public eats up boring music like it's candy.
boring
Not only boring, but hokey.

still I am dumbfounded by some of the nonsense written above.....yes total nonsense.
If I read it on a lady ga ga forum I'd understand but to read it here is strange
Unthought known is a classic PJ song, and its even better live.....still some of you are insistant in living in those no code and vitalogy days
Don't lay your problems on us.
You're totally right. UK is a classic PJ song. It's called Love Boat Captain.
hmmmmmmmm.....the dangers of drink are evident
Really, UK and LBC sound nothing alike besides the guitar strums at the beginning.
LBC is such a depressing downer of a song. Unthought Known really kicks its ass.
