Pearl Jam and Your kids

Do I count as a kid?

I think some of you might consider me one....
Keep on sharing the PJ love with your kids- I wish I got my obsession started at a younger age than I really did. It's awesome to have young kids these days be exposed to music other than the disney channel & top 40 crap that's out there!"Sometimes you find yourself having to put all your faith in no faith."

What an awesome thread!
My nearly 5 year old loves Pearl Jam. She asks if we can turn on PJ and dance. Whenever we listen to Backspacer in the car I'm not allowed to turn the car off till Just Breathe is finished - she sings along (with her own lyrics) and my 2 year old son sits there bobbing his little head smiling. She also loves Unthought Known. It makes me so proud that they both have (my) great taste in music.

It's worse than I thought - my 4 year old was singing at the dinner table tonight - "there's noothing worse than a gremmie outta control..."

They know and sing several songs from each album, but as of lately my son Lucas (the 5 year old) can't get enough of Supersonic, he sings the whole song from start to end but the funny thing is that he doesnt get all the lyrics right so listening to his singing is a riot.. lol
Wow your lucky, all my son Horshack loves is fart noises.0 -
When our then 3.5 year old had his turn at 'news' at his kindergarten he decided to sing his class a song...
"There are colours on the street.."
And proceeded to sing the first verse and chorus of Rockin' in the Free World for his classmates enjoyment.
I got VERY strange looks from the Kindy staff that day when i picked him up.0 -
My 8 year old son loves PJ. The only problem with listening to boots with the kids is Eddie's love of the f-word. It was hilarious the first time my son heard Porch because he immediately pointed out that "he said WTF". So I gave up policing it because if he already knows what WTF means, well, who am I kidding? Plus, it gives me a reason to continue listening to my boots.

I have an 11 month old boy. He loves it when I (or Pearl Jam) sing Last Kiss. Its my go to when I'm trying to get him to fall asleep. I can play other soft acoustic songs, but he doesn't respond until he hears Last Kiss. Its really weird/awesome. He's been to 2 PJ shows and 1 Eddie show in utero. He's the best.0

I'm a single mom. Recently my 7 yr old son was watchin IIC w/me and after watching a part with Ed & his daughter, he said: "I bet he's a great dad. To bad he's not my dad, he could teach me guitar." So sweet and sad. Guess what he's getting for Christmas? Guitar lessons. I love that kid.Be Kind, for everyone is fighting a hard battle0

I've kind of written about this elsewhere, but my 12 and 14 year old sons got into PJ last year. The 12 year old got into the music first so we took him to see EV solo in Boston and then Mansfield 1. Even though I had seen PJ 3 times before, those 2 concerts and the experience of sharing it with my son really took my fandom and his to a whole new level and the 14 year old became just as big a fan, too. They just HAD to get Ten and Backspacer the day they came out on Rock Band. The 12 year old also took up guitar this year and thanks to Given to Wail has taught himself all or parts of many songs (I'd guess 40 or so). He'll be playing "Elderly Woman" at the local shopping mall in a recital over the holidays.
By the time this year rolled around, they were desperate to see PJ live now knowing ALL their music (almost certainly better than I do). Anyway, I was able to bring my younger son to see EV solo again in Albany and have such fond memories of us listening to some new bootlegs in the car all the way to and from Boston. My older son couldn't make that one, but I managed to arrange for him to see EV in Philly with my wife - they had to get off the train on the way back from a class trip to DC to get there, but he loved it.
I was still trying to get them to see the whole band and we happened to be vacationing in London when they were there, so we went to O2 but could not get in. We stood outside and listened to the encores and had a blast anyway.
We were lucky enough to get tickets to Philly 3 and 4. The anticipation was unbelievable for them - following setlists on line, making lists of all the songs they wanted to hear, etc. Then we won the lottery for Philly 3 at our first show as 10C members! That was the night of a lifetime for all of us. My older son's first PJ concert and he was front row. Ed acknowledged my younger son to the whole crowd, gave him his harmonica after Footsteps, and Matt gave him his drumsticks and wristband. Just when I was feeling a little bad for my older son because of the attention his little brother was getting, Ed gave him his setlist. Both boys got picks from Mike. It's almost a month later and just writing about this feels so great to remember - not just the concert which was amazing, but the shared experience of it as a family was really wonderful.
Anyway, it was just Thanksgiving so this is a great opportunity to thank the band again for their music. It has been an incredible gift to our family that has brought me even closer to my sons over the last year and a half and has given us many, many hours of shared pleasure. (Only my 14 year old daughter, ever the contrarian, refuses to jump on the PJ bandwagon. Although in a moment of weakness she will admit to liking Into the Wild).96: 10-2 Hartford

My three year old daughter Olivia has become a big Pearl Jam fan, and it's made me so proud. She knows six songs off of Backspacer now and will ask for them by title. Every time we get in the car she will ask me to put on Pearl Jam. She says that The Fixer is her favorite song, but now she's really into "The Wave Song" (Amongst the Waves" and "The Thought Song" (Unthought Known). It is so cute to hear her sing along to the songs ("let's go swim tonight, darlin," "gems and RHINESTONES," "Nuffin left, nuffin left..."). I DVRed the ACL show this week and she wants me to play it over and over again. Last night after Thanksgiving dinner she wanted us to both put on our PJ Target t-shirts (I have two) and watch the show - she gets so excited whenever they show Boom! I can't wait to take her to a live show - I've seen them plenty of times already but that will be a special show when I can actually take her along. At what age is it ok to bring them to a show?

I think my daughter had a Pearl Jam 'overload' with me playing the boots one after the other.... :oops:0

My 15 year old daughter first saw PJ with me in 2003, when she was 9. In 2006 after I'd joined the Ten Club I had one spare ticket, so she came again with me at the age of 12. She was also lucky enough to see them the other night in Sydney with me once more, so she's now seen them 3 times. My other daughter came to Adelaide with me, using up my spare Ten Club ticket. She's 14 and it was her first rock concert. She now keeps asking me to play PJ in the car, definitely came out of the concert liking them a whole lot more. Loves Big Wave. My 11 year old wanted to come to one of the concerts but there's no way I was going to take him, not tall enough for GA plus it would send me broke! He does like the DTE animated video a lot.0

I have two Kids, a 6 yr old Girl and a 3 yr old Boy and my kids LOVE Pearl Jam, they have both been listening to them from the minute they were born. It's all i listen to in the Car and In the house, so there is no way they can get away from it!
My 6 Yr old constantly tells people just how much she loves Pearl Jam, she even goes around to her teachers at school and tells them just how much her Mummy loves Pearl Jam. Most recently, she went around telling everyone that I had "a new Pearl Jam Jacket and Thingy for her keys... and you're not allowed to touch them!!"
My Kids really love Backspacer at the moment... My son absloutley LOVES "The Fixer" "Amongst the Waves" and "Johnny Guitar", whereas my daughter really loves "Just Breathe" and "Got some".
I am soooo glad that My kids appriciate Pearl Jam... My Husband may say differently, but i DO NOT Care!! Having Past my LOVE of this MAGNIFICENT Band onto my Kids is more than enough to make me happy!!!

If you don't get him the lessons I will!!
My two girls like PJ, my 13 yr old loves the Fixer, says it's always in her head ( not just because I play it all of the time!) When we first adopted her she was stuck on anything sung on the Disney Channel, now she requests Pearl Jam, and wants to go to a show with us! I finally came up with this idea, My husband and I will get 10C tix, and buy a pair (if possible :? ) and I'll keep the best seats, and she can bring a friend! I hope I get the chance to try that out!
My 3 1/2 yr old loves Faithful and Jeremy. I sang an awesome acoustic version of Jeremy to her every night when she was a baby.I'll ride the wave where it takes me
