Nirvana bore me to death except a handful of songs. I dont notice anything oustanding, nevermind vaguely original or interesting.0 -

I was expecting fat grooves and riffs like a Kyuss + Zeppelin type thing but its just the same sucky weird qotsa type shit, everything just sounds really boring and samey. Josh's voice is really lame and the music, well, nothing special about it all.
Seeing them on the 18th of Dec though..
i have never liked anything josh homme has done.0 -

I fucking love Josh Homme, only when he plays in Kyuss or is playing First It Giveth, No One Knows, Sky is Falling or Lost Arts of Keeping a Secret.
I fucking loved the Foo Fighters, Colour and The Shape, Nothing Left To Loose and One by One yeah!! Got a few good songs after that but i havent kept up with them anymore due to just finding other bands but should listen to them more i think. Times Like These is a great song, their unplugged cd is ace too btw, those acoustic rendition are ace.
Soo your point is wrong a bit :P0 -

just got the album.
i mean it's okay. i've never really been a fan of homme; he's a talented musician but not all of his stuff is really for me. and this album definitely is majority homme.
there are some great tracks though (first three in particular).
i'm sure this album will grow on me.
i wasn't expecting much honestly, even though it is josh homme, dave grohl, and john paul jones.Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
Butthead: Huh huh.0 -

That's what I'm saying. Nirvana has always gone way over my head, but I always appreciated Grohls drumming.7/2/06 - Denver, CO

I intentionally steered clear of all listenings prior to this because I wanted to hear it live from the stage as my first listening experience... and it was fucking GREAT.
Say what you will about Them Vultures... in my opinion, they are the best thing to come along in rock music for a long, long time.
Glad to hear you liked them. I wish I would have gotten tickets for the Philly show! :x
I just had too much $$ tied up in PJ tickets around that time. Oh well, hopefully they comeback around again. If there were no Angels would there be no sin?0 -
Slightly off thread but I thought you might find this amusing.
I had occasion to meet Homme in my work capacity (all I'll say is he had to show his passport to get into the country).
It was around 3 in the morning and I recognised him instantly so made sure he came to me. QOTSA had just played Paris, and he was totally off his head.
I asked him if was okay, he said he needed food as all he'd consumed was those little coca-cola bears (anyone remember them?). He then produced a handful of said bears from his pocket.
It was then I had to ask him to complete a landing card (personal details for Non EU citizens). When it came to Occupation, he didn't understand, so I asked him what he did for a living, knowing exactly what he did.
His reply floored me "I'm a f*****g ROCKSTAR"
So that's what he put on the landing card (apart from the expletive of course).
He then signed an autograph for me "To *******, you're so sweet, luv Josh"
The man is a legend whatever he does.

Really? You don't like Dave Grohl's drumming? Surely you don't think it's due to lack of talent do you? If you knew anything about drumming you'd know the guys loaded with talent (Matt Cameron can't hold a candle to him, we can make a thread about this if you;d like and I've got plenty of evidence to back this up)
This video's just a start.

Those triplet fills at the end of the song are incredible, Dave's loaded with talent.0 -

Yeah i love that shit, the fills he does in no one knows are fat! Keep em coming.
All i suggest is watching ALL of this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4ygBladNLo - the ending is just sickening.0 -

Jesus Christ Pose is Matt's best effort, and it's a damn good one.
But the Triplet Fills in A Song For The Dead (from a dummers perspective) are a lot harder to pull off. I can play Jesus Christ Pose, playing A Song for the Dead is a different story.
I'll see your "Jesus Christ Pose", and I'll raise you a "First it Givith." Granted it's studio, but the chorus of the song is still a great display of Dave's talent.

Why did we get into a debate about Matt Cameron though? :P
Ya i dont know anything about the drums but think that jesus christ pose video is matt's best moment :P That fill at 4 mins 52 WTF? I love that Ayotte kit, its the best sound ever.
Ya thats a nice chorus, i really dig that song.
I think this is nice drumming too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c18qSkOmz600 -
I just saw the second of two nights in a row of one of the best rock drummers on the planet operating within his element. Go see 'Them Crooked Vultures' live... the way they should be experienced and appreciated... and try to argue the point that they are not good. These two nights convinced me that this is one of the great rock bands of our times.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

just watching their reading festival set..there is a 2nd guitarist :-o
Elephants - lame riffs, dont like that tone. I like that beat Dave does though on the verse though. Overall pretty dull song, josh's voice is just like mehhh in this song.
Dead End Friend - Once again boring riff, just very standard. Cool little solo bit in it.
Mind Eraser, No Chaser - the opening was pretty neatbut didn't go anywhere. Chorus is okayish. I like these little bits whoever is soloing over the top of the riff, think its Alain. Nice ending.
daffodil - just not digging these riffs hmm. Josh's vocals better in this. Nice stuff towards the end, I like dave's beat towards, sounds quite alright this does.
New Fang - Like groovey bits like these but the riff is a bit of a let down. There is a well annoying sliding sound in all these songs i swear in places, its just ruining everything. Ah good soloy jam bridge there. Think Dave's drumming saves these songs quite a bit. Another good jam secion, if it was all like this it would be noice.
Waraw blah blah - same shit really
I'm not too keen on the ovrall tone of the guitars either, just makes music sound droopy and lame.
I probably made no sense but oh well!0 -
i tried to listen to these guys on youtube...I don't care for their sound and just can't get into it...not thanks!Need a tour Travel Agent??? Pick me :-)
