What do you say to those people who think going to concerts are just a waste of money? They obviously aren't music fans! Sometimes, I take it very personal.

I just laugh. What I do with my money is no one's business by my own. Plus, thanks to them that's one less person to compete with when trying for tickets."We get these pills to swallow... how they stick in your throat... Tastes like gold..."0 -

I just say

We get that a bit because we travel to see concerts- mostly PJ- which gets very expensive. I think some don't understand why we would spend say 1500$ to see a show instead of traveling to a beach destination or a more typical vacation. Its the best vacation I could ever come up with- now none others would compare.0

I've never had anyone tell me they're a waste of money...however, people are usually shocked at how much I spend on shows in a year and that I'll go see the same band more than once, especially in the same week0

I'm dealing with some very judgemental friends about this exact issue right now. I can see their point right now, as I'm unemployed and really struggling. But I have to answer to nobody but me. Music is the one thing in my life that makes me REALLY HAPPY. It's my comfort, it heals me. Others have different avenues, I don't judge them. Aaaahhhh..............can't wait for tonight! The best use of Life is Love.
The best expression of Love is Time.
The best time to Love is Now.
I'm never as good as when you're there.........0 -
Exactly. It's a way to let go of your problems, dip your toe into the fountain of youth, and be moved in ways that have to be felt to be understood - all in one shot. I can't think of anything better than that. Let the judgers cling to whatever they want, we've found what we love and shouldn't apologize for drinking it in.PJPixie wrote:Music is the one thing in my life that makes me REALLY HAPPY. I travel to a lot of shows so I get this question a lot. Sometimes I think people think I'm crazy to hop on a plane just to see a band. I usually tell them I love music and I love to travel so why not. I usually follow that up with asking for what their plans are for the weekend. That usually shuts them up

Traveling is fun. My wife is a flight attendant so I fly stand-by 8-) . If I can make it into the city I then worry about a ticket. I have only been shut-out once in 30 years of searching for a ticketPJGARDEN wrote:I travel to a lot of shows so I get this question a lot. Eh... Most of my friends understand since most of them have season tickets to sporting events. But I do get the occasional "holy heck you go to a lot of shows", I tell them it is what makes me happy. I tend to go to a lot of concerts in general, not just Pearl Jam. Plus I don't have the responsibilities my friends have, no wife, kids, dog, just work.... so I can pick up and go as I please. If there were no Angels would there be no sin?0

Couldnt agree more with all the posts on this thread. My wife and I have began to make a habit of hitting up festivals as our annual vacation. Well we've only done Bonnaroo 08 and Outside Lands 09 (they were obviously centered around PJ), however we've had so much fun and discovered so much new music that I dont see us stopping there. Would love to check out ACL (have always wanted to visit Austin) and perhaps Sasquatch and 10,000 lakes sometime soon. Cheers:)We were but stones your light made us stars0

Some of my friends don't understand you can see a good band for 10-15 bucks. They just think all shows are like 50+ dollars because they only listen to big radio bands.
Money is tight so i actually did not go to see dinosaur jr this time around which really sucked, but i saw cymbals eat guitars/pains of being pure, deer tick, & gaslight anthem all for the same price combined that my one dinosaur jr ticket woudl have cost.
Sooooo i tell them i'm going to a show and they think i'm automatically dropping 50-80 bucks which is not always the case because lots good bands still play shows for 10 bucks

I saw Dino Jr, and the show was great but, I thought the ticket prices were a little high. I think it was $36 or something.
My friends think the same about the cost of shows. When I tell them it was only $15 or $20, they just say the band must suck if that's all they can charge. Some people just don't get it.0 -
Well... my friends don't understand why i would watch a band so many times, and travel so far and such
but they don't give me much crap about it, and know it is part of who i am
so all works out.I am just a dreamer, but you are just a dream...

I hated missing dino on this tour. the new album is really cool, but between J solo/Fog shows and Dinosaur jr shows i've seen them a lot. I thought the price was a little high after all the fees too, and that is why i decided to justify seeing the other three shows for the price it would have cost to see dinosaur jr.
I still missed having my face melted by J though

So do the judgmental people think it is ok to spend top dollar on sports' tickets?
I've mostly heard nasty remarks that "concerts are for kids."
well I'm losing my hearing so there goes my concert joy any way
unless I can wear headsets like ed's daughter used to and hope people won't laugh at me.
