    To my way of thinking Black’s lyrics are the best depiction of the emotional feelings, of one that has been sexually abused as a child. This inspired me to delve deeper into PJ’s music.

    For years I sang along knowing that I somehow had to pluck up the courage to do the same, whilst being sceptical of the clearer, clearer bit. Eventually on the 31st of September 2003 I jumped in the car with Rearviewmirror on repeat went to the police station and made a statement. Outside the station after wards I lit a smoke lent against a garden bed when this strange tingling in my shoulders and neck a feeling a large weight had been lifted, and for the first time in 37 years I felt good about myself.
    (The court proceedings didn’t go to plan but I expected that! The prosecutor told me at the start he wouldn’t be prosecuting perpetrator because of his age. Even though the perpetrator pled guilty! It was all over in 2006.)
    It is now 2009 and to my astonishment I cannot remember what is in the statement of 2003 not one sordid detail. For that I’m truly grateful to all of you.

    Thanks for your kind words. Yes thankfully I have peace of mind and freedom of the sexual abuse.

    In having said that:
    The Queensland DPP’s failure to represent me. The Queensland government’s compensation payout of $700. (To receive this payment I’d have to pay out $3,000 - $4,000 for Medical & other reports, court costs, travel expenses.) Then there’s the obligatory lifelong suppression order.

    These actions seem to have had a detrimental effect on my self-esteem.

    Suffice to say these song titles are in the forefront of my mind: Nothingman bordering on a Dead Man Walking but I’m still Thumbing My Way cause they Cant Keep me down because, I Am Mine.

    I think it would be easier to list what songs don't inspire me (as much), there are so few. If I had to choose the ones that did it the most, I would have to say that Elderly Woman is huge for me. Jeremy is such a great song because almost 20 years later this song has become even more relevant than when it was released. Yellow Ledbetter live in New Orleans. I cant remember the exact date, but I think it was on Bootleg # 68???? Not sure, but that version was just absolutely magnificent!!!! Given to Fly, the list just goes on and on! The Back Spacer album ROCKS!!! I don't think there is an album out today (in any genre) that has lyrics that can match the emotion that come is expressed!

    Like others I would say Pearl Jam is the reason I picked up a guitar and i can't go a day without playing now.....
    I think the song helps me with my feelings, emotions, what have you a lot right now definitely is Present Tense.... Can you see the way that tree bends? Does it inspire? Leaning out to catch the sun's rays, a lesson to be applied..... Also, you can spend your time alone, redigesting past regrets, or you can come to terms and realize you're the only one who can't forgive yourself.... Often I feel like I am in a hole and that there is no sense working to get out of it because it's impossible.... But if you have ever seen a tree growing under something that casts a lot of shade (like those roofs you see in parks with picnic tables under them for instance) it will grow almost completely horizontal many times until it gets to where it can get enough sunlight and then it will grow up from there..... Sometimes you just have to reach out and let some light in and not shut yourself off to help, admiration, etc. The sun is trying it's best so you shouldn't fault it because you happen to be under a roof.... After all, often you are the only one that can't forgive yourself, and can't let things go and just move on......

    Release and Leash would have to be the two for me, although there are so many others too. I am just so grateful for PJ's music (and music in general for that matter). It's kept me from stepping off the ledge so many times.
