I think it is a great rock n roll album, just what radio needs right now.
Since Grohl played drums on Songs for Deaf and Hommes is on vocals, I would have been shocked if they didn't sound like QOTSA. Songs for the Deaf is one of my favorite albums, so it wasn't a stretch that I would like this album.

Yes and yes. And QOTSA are a far superior band and Josh is a far superior singer
Bwahahaha this is the funniest thing i've ever seen on this forum :P
Well what happened back in the day when people couldn't check out youtube for previews and shit eh? I did listen to 2 songs on youtube and didn't think much but they have been off songs :P I'm an avid collector of music, i'll buy a cd and check it out, hence why im going to see them live anyway
The production is nice which is a good thing, just the music in it is just so hyped. Guess i was expecting the totally wrong thing but maybe i'll dig them if i see them live.
I'm glad you're amused by someones musical opinion. I think it's hilarious you think John Garcia is a better singer, because he's horrible. He's distinctive, but horrible. But you don't see me having a go........oh wait, guess I've been brought down to your level. Fisticuffs?"The mind is a wonderfull thing to be altered"

Love Kyuss, love Queens, love desert sessions, and god dammit, I love TCV.
I agree, though, I was hoping for more. Homme was able to make QOTSA sound so much different from Kyuss (doesn't even sound like the same guitar player - but he fuckin rocks them both), I had hope he would pull another trick and find yet another sound for this album.
Oh well. They're three badass musicians doing their thing, and that's always okay by me. It certainly doesn't suck by a long shot.0 -

Totally. This album sounds like three guys having fun playing music, which is exactly what it's all about.

I just wish Josh would pull out those riffs out of his ass! Seriously, Josh isn't good a vocals, he doesn't really have the power in his voice or the variation in range and stuff.
Also Dave Grohl sucks at drumming!0 -

Yea I do agree with you about Josh not having variation. He sings pretty much the same n everything. I like it, but it isnt to everyone's taste. I really dislike Garcia though. Just a matter of opinion I guess. I can understand why people dislike Grohl, I'm personally a fan, but he can be irritating as a singer and lead man. But saying he sucks at drumming is just ridiculous dude!"The mind is a wonderfull thing to be altered"

I just got the album. Overall, considering the expectations, I'm also disappointed. Not because its terrible, but because its average. It definatly seems like Queens to me. I'm not a huge fan of Josh Homme but I'm not really anti-Homme either, and I thought, like most people, that with Grohl and Jones how could it not be album of the year material. Its hard to argue that every song doesn`t sound the same. And I don`t mean same style, I mean many songs could be the same song from the track before. The first three songs I really like, but after that... I`m a huge Zep fan and big Foo fan, and with all of the similarities being drawn between this and zeppelin, and other classic rock greats I was expecting something very different. The album doesn`t actually seem that classic rock influenced, more modern hard rock than anything, which is a shock, so many critics say otherwise. The RollingStone review said theres a track that basically takes every Zeppelin II riff and jams it into 9 mins...I dont know what they were hearing, must have some good pot over at RollingStone. I think everyone wanted this to be a turn around point for modern rock, to bring more talent, more soul and more classic foundation to modern music. I think everyone expected and wanted this to be a landmark performance from three great rock contributors...but it isn`t. I had heard Jones really shows his stuff, and as RS said, reminds everyone hes one of the guys who brought you black dog. I found that much of the bass seemed ordinary. I was expecting something unique, but my opinion is that it isn`t. I know not everyone agrees, but thats how I see it, and I like these guys and the music they make so I don`t feel I have any biases. In the end I don`t think its bad, you won`t hate yourself for spending the 14 bucks it costs, but if you bought into the critic`s reviews and were expecting the best album since physical graffiti, your probably a little taken back by what you`re hearing instead.0

Saw them last night at the 450 seat Roxy Theater last night and was completely blown away.
I intentionally steered clear of all listenings prior to this because I wanted to hear it live from the stage as my first listening experience... and it was fucking GREAT.
Say what you will about Them Vultures... in my opinion, they are the best thing to come along in rock music for a long, long time.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!
