using someones name is not for me, especially not someone like ed, personally
i dont think he would dig it to much.....
but its a free country, and congrats, my daughter is now 9 weeks old, enjoy
Don't be so quick to judge Ed, he named his second daughter Harper after Ben Harper.
Congrats on you're daughter. Mine will be here in January.

Well, not sure. But with all the public love he spreads for Ben Harper I would have to lean toward that. When he starts promoting Harper Lee's work on stage, then I will change my mind.
I think naming your child after the last name of the lead singer of your favorite band is taking your obsession a bit too far. Before you posted, did you even bother to think about this? I don't know how anyone could even consider this a good idea. The poor kid would get made fun of for years.

...
I bet there is a 20 year old named 'Winger' that can testify to this... I'm guessing he's out there, somewhere.
Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!
Hail, Hail!!!
Sounds silly. Give your child the chance to grow up and be his/her own person. Middle name maybe, but otherwise "Vedder" is better suited for a dog or pet.
A few years ago I was in a Walmart and overheard a mother say "Anakin, get yer ass over here...now." Funny and not funny at the same time. I think I would feel the same if Anakin were replaced with Vedder.
"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win ."
I dunno. I just don't get it. I think it's a shame that more parents are too scared to stray away from common everyday names and go for the gusto. I can say personally that I feel privileged to be given a name that is so uncommon I've never met another person with it.
Yes, when I was very young, I used to get picked on. People would come up to me and say, "Hey Remington, shave this." Very clever. How are you not famous with that sort of wit?
I am a waiter and I still get a lot of it. I'm always asked if my last name is Steele. I usually just say yes. I've found it makes people bite their tongues faster.
However, I can say that people I met ten years back will still remember me today, even if I hadn't seen them at all in the past decade. Whenever I am introduced to someone new, they always find it so improbable that my name is Remington they always have more questions for me. More often than not when I am leaving after meeting someone new, I often hear remarks such as, "That is such a cool name," or, "He has a very sexy name."
I think Vedder is a great first name. I think that so long as you take the time once your child is born to share your passion of Pearl Jam with them that they will grow to love the uniqueness of their name. Either way I guarantee that they will embrace a sense of self-appreciation and have an exalted sense of individuality that they would not have if you named your child Pat.
We have 16 month old twins, and we named our son Vedder Gabriel, and our daughter Winter Evangeline. They both had some serious medical issues, but we were enormously blessed. My wife wanted my son to have a very strong name. There are plenty of Eric's, Aiden's and Connor's in the world. Congrats on your new baby. Best of Luck. You and your wife will know the right name when you see your babies face for the first time.
We had a third baby this summer and we named her Emma Pearl. You should have seen the dirty looks I got from my mother and sister over that one. But I could care less... since Pearl actually is a real name and since we made it her middle name I feel like I fall on the lower end of the obsessive fan scale
I'd agree with others suggesting to make it a middle name, but only you and your wife get a vote that counts so do what you think is best.
Congrats!

Wife pregnant and if we have a boy we are considering naming him Vedder. What ya think?

I suggested in the Lukin thread that I didn't think it could get any worse than "Vedder" and I stand by that.
If you have to name something Vedder, go to the Humane Society.

SUSAN: They’re gonna name their baby Seven.
GEORGE: (disbelief) What?! They’re stealing the name?! That’s my name, I made it up!
SUSAN: I can’t believe that they’re using it.
GEORGE: (anger) Well now it’s not gonna be original! It’s gonna lose all its cache!
SUSAN: I dunno how much cache it had to begin with.
GEORGE: (rage) Oh, it’s got cache, baby! It’s got cache up the yin-yang!!!

'How do you not like soda? It's bubbly, It''s refreshing!'
What happens if Ed gets arrested with child pornography? That would be my fear.

I agree !
You know what kind of person names their kid "Jagger"?
Scott Stapp.
'nuff said.

You never know how they might fuck up and then your kid is stuck with that tag.
Not saying Ed will fuck up, but you never really know.
Gotta run. I have to pick up my little Winehouse from soccer practice.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me...
