I think Just Breathe is a great choice.

Next would be either Got Some, or Unthought Known.

Amongst the Waves is a crowd killer and kind of a cheesy song lyrically to me. Glad that's not the single.

Got Some was on the other side of the Just Breathe single. I think they called it a double A side, but I haven't heard much about it being played?

    Anyone hearing it?

Here's how they should do it, even if it's a little too late now...

    1. The Fixer (They chose the right lead single, it's the catchiest, most infectious song on the record.)

    2. Got Some (I feel that choosing another rocker as the next single would serve them best, this wouldn't become as big a hit but could still do well on rock radio.)

    3. Unthought Known (Would reveal the more reflective side of the record while still being anthemic and full of emotion. There's an earnestness to this song that could connect with a lot of people.)

    4. Amongst the Waves (It's the most anthemic song on the record, and I feel it could potentially connect with the same people who were drawn to the previous single.)

    5. Just Breathe (Shows off the acoustic side to the record, and people seem to be drawn to this song, if iTunes sales are any indication. It is a great song that might become a minor crossover hit, if the band decides to release five singles.)

That's the scenario that I personally feel would work best, but obviously if "Just Breathe" is indeed the second single then that would be all messed up (unless "Got Some" is the double A-side, maybe).

Just Breathe is a great choice. It is attracting people to Pearl jam that have never listened to them, i've seen some great examples already
"All I Ever Knew" available now in print and digital formats at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks.
  • ATW is basically the next given to fly. The kinda song that casual pearl jam fans pick up on and expect from the band. Shoulda been the obvious choice.
    Get over here!

I think it was a smart choice. Basically, anyone who'd be into something like "Got Some" or "Amongst the Waves" probably already decided on whether to buy the album, based on "The Fixer" and their notions of Pearl Jam in general.

But "Just Breathe" will get play on different types of stations (eg Coffee House, adult alternative stations like WXPN in Philly), potentially bring new fans in to the fold.

This is what people aren't getting. I am having people who quit listening to them years ago, or never listened to them much at all, dig this song.

I know people who bought the Into the Wild soundtrack because they loved the book and movie so much and they listen to the soundtrack all the time, but they would have never bought a PJ album. This song will hook people like that. And it is a great song too.
